Grandma Got Run Over By Obama

At least, that's how I would have put it! Mark Steyn had: "Grandma Got Over at the Press Club". I don't know if meant to put "run" in there, as an homage to Dr. Elmo, but I would have!
Speaking of Obama, Steyn writes:
He said, apropos the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, that “I could no more disown him than I can disown my white grandmother.” But last week he did disown him. So, great-speech-wise, it’s a bit like Churchill promising to fight them on the beaches and never surrender, and then surrendering a month and a half later, and on a beach he decided not to fight on.

Incidentally...anyone seen Barack's granny lately?
...The speech was designed to take a very specific problem — the fact that Barack Obama, the Great Uniter, had sat in the pews of a neo-segregationist huckster for 20 years — and generalize it into some grand meditation on race in America. Senator Obama looked America in the face and said: Who ya gonna believe? My “rhetorical magic” or your lyin’ eyes?

Steyn is always a delight to read and thought provoking as well. As a writer, of course, I hate him! He also takes on the perpetually whiny Michelle Obama as well. Read the whole piece here.

UPDATE: According to Wikipedia: Obama's granny is alive and well in Hawaii:
Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham (born October 26, 1922) and Stanley Armour Dunham (March 23, 1918 – February 8, 1992) are the maternal grandparents of Barack Obama... They raised Senator Obama from age 10 in their Honolulu, Hawaii high-rise apartment, where the widowed Mrs. Dunham still lives today...
