Barack's de facto Gun Ban

James Taranto of Best of the Web Today points to an under reported story on Barack Obama's two-faced stand on gun control. David Hardy's Of Arms and the Law website has the story:
"Obama's proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school"

Reader Henry Bowman had a comment blocked by the spam filter, and merits a separate post. He writes:

"Barack Obama supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America." is more than just a little exaggeration.

You think so? Let's go to the website of somebody who has done the homework you should have done.

Check out the map there, and the other maps linked on that page. Every one of those dots is merely 1,000 feet in radius -- the size of the current "school zone" for the federal law.

Now imagine that each dot is 26 times bigger! Where do the gun stores fit?
Here's a map of Cleveland, OH, (2005) complete with 1,000 ft dots:

Hat tip GunLaws.com

Now multiply those dots twenty six times! They don't want gun dealers selling guns out of their homes...or any where else! The Pro-abortion people say
What good is the right to an abortion if a woman can't afford it?

I'd ask Obama and his other face: What good is the "right of the people to keep and bear arms" if you put all the gun dealers out of business?

  1. Just what, exactly, is such a proposal supposed to accomplish? Minors can’t buy guns at gun stores anyway without a parent or guardian present to fill out the paperwork, even then, through the paperwork the adult is making the purchase, the minor is just carrying the cash.

Fuckinay, convicted child molesters and drug peddlers can legally get into closer proximity of schools and parks than legitimate businesses.

Political posturing and cover, if necessary, for the liberal who proposes it.
"I'm not advocating a complete gun ban! Just a common sense restriction that accomplishes a complete ban!"

It's a means of talking out of both sides of one's mouth.

  3. Proof, I know I'm being redundant but well said! This is exactly what the Dems and B. Hussein are trying to accomplish.
