Amateur Hour at "Health Care Reform" Pt. 2

At :54
How many more years can the Federal Budget handle the crushing costs of Medicare and Medicaid?

Hello? McFly?? The costs the government incurs with Medicare and Medicaid are "crushing", but taking that number and multiplying it by covering more an more people would not be? What's the difference? And if the government knows how to do it, why not demonstrate it with Medicare, Medicaid, the VA and on the reservations where the Federal government is already in charge?

Lots of anecdotes. Remember that hard cases make bad law. And then a really big lie at 3:35
"Every proposal has been put on the table"
This must be one of those "The meaning of 'is' is" moments! Tort reform? Allowing insurance companies to offer policies across state lines? These were "on the table"? When?
3:59
A proposal that incorporates the best of Democrats and Republicans. Best ideas.
Except for tort reform, and allowing insurance companies to offer policies across state lines apparently!

Whopper alert at 5:15
"I don't believe we should give government or insurance companies more control over health care in America."

You.
Have.
Got.
To.
Be.
Kidding.
Me!
The government take over of the health care system will not give the government more control? You mean until the ink is dry on your signature, right?

5:39
"If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor."
Granted, this lie has a teeny element of truth in it. If you like your plan, you can keep your plan...until your employer finds that they have to change to the public option to stay competitive, or until your insurance company goes out of business...whichever comes first!
And if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor...until he either decides that he can't keep his practice open on what the government reimburses, or decides that the red tape and bureaucratic interference aren't worth the grief any more. Many doctors are talking about retiring if Obamacare is adopted.

6:08
"End the worst practices of insurance companies. People with pre-existing conditions would be able to purchase health insurance."

Take away the ability of insurance companies to "arbitrary and massively hike your premiums"
So, let me get this straight...insurance companies must accept anyone with any pre-condition, which will massively increase their benefit pay out, but will not be allowed to raise rates to cover those costs? How long will you be able to "keep your plan" with a bankrupt company?

It gets better! (Or worse if you are happy with the plan you have now)
7:25
All new insurance plans will be required to offer free preventive care to their customers starting this year. Free check ups so that we can catch preventable diseases on the front end.

Obama wants to cover more people with this program and provide them with more services and not raise costs or ration services?

This is based on the fallacy that preventive medicine is cheaper than treating the disease. It could be, if the only people who received the preventive medicine were the same people who would later be getting sick. If five people out of a hundred catch disease "A", which would be cheaper to prevent than treat, you save "X" dollars. However, if you give the same preventive medicine to the ninety five people as well, who would not have contracted the disease, it probably will cost you more.

"There will be no more lifetime or restrictive annual limits on the amount of care that you can receive from your insurance company. That can end up costing people hundreds of thousands of dollars because they hit a limit."

So, Obama wants to take the insurance companies, most of which make a 2% return on their investment, some perhaps as high as 5 - 7%. But, Obama doesn't see any problems with insurance companies paying out hundreds of thousands of dollars per individual, in premiums they were not allowed to collect, with no restrictions on their liabilities. This business model closely resembles Howard Hughes on how to run a million dollar movie studio: Start with a two million dollar studio!

In the "Big Whoop" department, Obama told the students they could stay on their parents insurance policies until they were 26. As long as they were full time students, all of my kids could stay on my policy until they were, (drum roll please!)
25.

Still got a couple pages of notes and two more videos. May have to conclude this tomorrow.
