Medal of Honor Recipient Van Barfoot, R.I.P.

Colonel Van T. Barfoot, Medal of Honor recipient, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 in Richmond, Virginia at the age of 92. Col. Barfoot was a Mississippian Choctaw.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor September 28, 1944. by Lt. Gen. Alexander M. Patch III in Epinal, France.

His Medal of Honor citation can be found here. Col Barfoot was is the news not too long ago when his Home Owner's Association tried to make him remove an American flag pole from his front yard, a battle that he won.

There are currently fewer than one hundred living Medal of Honor recipients. Tonight, there is one less. Godspeed Colonel Barfoot. Thank you for your service to our country.
