Homeowner's Association Limits Club Membership - Renters Need Not apply!

Land lord may take on a new connotation!

Is this just the latest battle over the rights of property owners to do what they want with their own property?

Yesterday, or "Last Year" in the jargon of some websites, r108 posted on racial tensions over renters in the Bay Area city of Antioch. Not sure if this is related in the same way, there could be a racial element to it, but a homeowner's association in the Sacramento suburb of Natomas has decided to limit membership in its swimming pools and health club to homeowners only! Renters need not apply!

The president of the Natomas Park Master Association told News10 the policy change was approved by over 70 percent of property owners who voted in mail balloting last summer.
Simple snobbery? Perceived economic self interest? Too many people Not Like Us out by the pool and on the weight machines?
Should renters have the same access to the amenities of their landed neighbors? They pay their taxes and assessments indirectly through their rents, so is this a form of "taxation without representation"? Or simply, 70% majority rules, if you want a vote, you need to buy a house?

I'll keep you posted on any follow up. I suspect this story has a second chapter!
