"Arbeit Macht Frei" Sign Stolen from Auschwitz

"Arbeit Macht Frei", The "Work will make you free" sign was stolen from the Holocaust Memorial site at Auschwitz.

Police spokeswoman Katarzyna Padlo said police believe it was stolen between 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday morning, when museum guards noticed that it was missing and alerted police.

Padlo also said that the iron sign, which spanned a gate at the main entrance to the former Nazi death camp in southern Poland, was removed by being unscrewed on one side and pulled off on the other.

Sounds like a good history revisionist putting shoe leather to his words. I hope they catch whoever did this. People who tamper with history are not only destined to repeat it, but doom others as well.

Thankfully, there is a less cynical phrase auf Deutsch: Die gedanken sind frei. Thoughts are free.

I suspect that Holocaust deniers are responsible for the theft, to erase physical evidence that it actually happened. But, they cannot take away our freedom to think and to recognize the truth for what it is. And imagine a world without man's inhumanity to man.
