Wisconsin Capital: Leftist Protesters' 7.5 Million Dollar Carbon Footprint

Image: Trash left behind after Obama's inauguration, Washington DC

by the Left Coast Rebel

Well, it's not really a carbon footprint on display at the Wisconsin capital, rather it's a trash and lack-of-respect for property rights liberal (carbon) footprint. Let's not it forget folks: leftists, collectivists, statists, socialists, far-left union nuts are all motivated by an overarching central theme: entitlement.

There's a Worldview That Separates us

In the case of the "I am entitled to a lavish lifestyle and retirement by way of your paycheck" aka the Wisconsin union protest; the price tab to clean up their anti-social behavior is a staggering $7.5 million dollars.

I can't think of a better example of the moral difference between conservatives, libertarians, constitutionalists and tea-partiers and the miscreants on the left. When you see conservatives and libertarians converge onto an area, they typically don't leave a carbon footprint (or mountains of trash) behind. They clean up after themselves, because they -- for the most part -- respect the property rights of their fellow citizens and even the government that they loathe so much. Leftists don't.

Warning: Traffic Ahead

It reminds me of a point that my fellow San Diego blogger/liberty activist friend Shane Atwell made in the comments at LCR about bad drivers. Bad drivers (those that lack respect and common courtesy) are often liberal statists, fascists or socialists (I know, that's redundant). They own the road (in their eyes), are entitled to their lane, speed, and otherwise and have have the right to drive like a flaming jerk simply because they were born and woke up that day (albeit at 10 a.m.). A refresher course from ages ago at LCR: leftists are not open-minded, either.

How dare you get in my way!

How dare you insist that I follow the same laws that you have to! I am entitled. It's my right.

The same hideous, anti-social ethos (or anti-ethos) extends from the roadways to a 'protest' destination, trashing (literally) property and ultimately picking the meat off the bones of your paycheck and the nation's balance sheet. They are entitled to everything simply because they have a pulse and we are bankrupt both morally and financially as a result.

How do we change this dynamic? Cut 'em off the government teat. Force accountability and respect for your neighbor and your neighbor's property. An empty stomach is a great motivator, even for a silver-spoon-in-the-mouth liberal.

Update: Since the picture above shows leftist inaugural trash (from those same people who love the planet every Earth Day) here's some of the leftist teacher's union protest trash:

  1. That picture looks like the aftermath of a snow storm...only it ain't snow, it's trash. Thanks, hippies!
I suggested on one forum that it might take a fire hose to clean out the WI state capitol after those guys have been sleeping in the last few weeks.
(Another commenter thought of a better use for the fire hose!)

  2. It never ceased to amaze me that those that claim to represent the working class have so much free time on their hands that they can spend days running into weeks at protest camp outs. They must have very understanding employers. Mine would fire me after the second or third day. I wonder what that building smells like now, not to mention the hippies that found a home there for the past days. What will it cost to fumigate the building? Ever pick up a hitch hiker? I did once. I had to leave the windows down in the car for 3 days to air out the stench. I'll never do it again.

  3. The Left has always been big on rent-a-mobs. With unemployment being so high, there's probably a lot of folk who would protest for a couple of bucks.

  4. The point being that they're UNEMPLOYED, representing the WORKING person. c'mon Proof don't let the irony hit you squarely in the face. Then look at the cameo shots in the news, those protesting aren't family people looking for jobs, they're late teeny boppers and early twenty something slackers looking to extend their free ride. The sooner you force them to be responsible for themselves the better off we'll all, including them, will be. Pride is only achieved by taking Personal Responsibility In Daily Effort.

  5. BTW, OT, but on the Charlie Sheen thing, remember Jim Morrison. Just saying, but you heard it here first.

  6. You misunderstood me. I wasn't saying they were unemployed and looking for jobs. I was saying that they were unemployed and thus available to make a few bucks as a rent-a-mob.

  9. It seems that you failed to post a follow-up when actual experts inspected the Capitol building after the peaceful, large scale protests and found the actual cost of cleanup to be closer to $0. No damage. The $7.5 million estimate was politically motivated and laughable.

Did the truth not fit your agenda?

  10. Gosh, Johnny. When you visit someplace for the first time are you always as insulting as possible?

Now, although I didn't write the original post, I am editor in chief of this blog, so, I'll respond: I didn't see whatever follow up story you seem to have seen. The last story I saw indicated that there was considerable damage. And even if the figure is less than originally quoted, did you even look at the picture that accompanied this story? Would you clean that up for a dollar?? Leave your phone number with the authorities in WI, they may want to call you next Earth Day!

Forgive me if I don't just take your word for it, Johnny. If you want to post a link to any credible source that what you have asserted here is true, I'd be happy to post it here. Or, does the truth backed up with actual facts not fit your agenda?

  11. "Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch admitted Friday the $7.5 million quoted by DOA lawyer Cari Ann Renlund was "at the high end of the range" and that actual cleanup costs could be as low as $347,500."

High end $7.5 mil, low end $347,000.

"...Meghan Thumm Mackey, an art conservator who has a studio in Middleton, said that even painters tape that's left on too long can leave adhesive residue on stone surfaces and require professional evaluation and removal using a solvent such as acetone, the main ingredient in nail polish remover, with a cotton swab.

That can get expensive, she said, as the small field of people like her trained in art conservation typically charge $100 an hour or more. In Stephan's memo, the state would need to rely heavily on such experts, which to clean 240,000 square feet inside would cost $6 million. He estimated another $1 million to clean and replenish the grounds outside and up to $500,000 for the initial assessment."

"...Even with the professional help, Mackey said the state's $7.5 million estimate "seems high to me." In a follow-up memo Friday to Huebsch by state facilities official Peter Manternowski, the cost is estimated as low as $347,500 if restoration specialists aren't required."

These are still estimates. Any word on the final cost? Any of you Madisonites have the answer? Were restoration specialists required or not?
