Obama's ideal car: But what's the point of driving a Sardine Can if the VMT hits
it as hard as a gas-guzzler?
by the Left Coast Rebel
Always watch the other hand.
As everyone is obsessed with the Osama bin Laden story, albeit rightly so, the socialist shenanigans in our government continue unabated.
The newest infringement hits your wallet via. your car.
It's called a VMT or "vehicle miles travelled" tax and it's the most Euro-Orwellian thing I have heard of in quite some time.
The Hill:
The Obama administration has floated a transportation authorization bill that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive.
The plan is a part of the administration's Transportation Opportunities Act, an undated draft of which was obtained this week by Transportation Weekly. News of the draft follows a March Congressional Budget Office report that supported the idea of taxing drivers based on miles driven.Among other things, CBO suggested that a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations.
As Team Obama squeezes every bit of political capital that they possibly can out of the Osama bin Laden story, remember a potential VMT in 2012.
Our ruling class will squeeze every last dollar that they can out of any and every American that makes (even a modest) living; your car may be the next target...
Watch tonight's GOP debate and consider this: which candidate would best stop America's march to socialism?
My choice is Gary Johnson, Sam Foster's is Herman Cain. Who is yours?

Another liberal brainfart with unintended consequences. What do you do with taxis, rental cars, trucks, vans, police, fire, BHO's limo, etc. Who get's exemptions and who doesn't. More political BS. And you can pay electronically when you fill up? Oh I'm sure that payment won't get deferred anywhere. Wait until the hackers get a hold of that system. Cha-ching!$$$
ReplyDeleteAnother regressive tax on the poor!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Proof...maybe the Feds will counter with a voucher for poor people to purchase a Volt?
ReplyDeleteI heard something on the radio today about allowing people a kind of "gas account" like a medical savings account, where they could buy their gas with pre-tax dollars. And I thought, What an unnecessary boondoggle! Just lower the federal gas tax and you get the same effect without all the hassle and confusion!
ReplyDeleteThe reference document that the hill story is based on is two years old. When it came out two years ago, Obama nixed the idea.
ReplyDeleteSo ask yourself, who is making abid deal of this now, and why
This would be an outrage if it were actually in the works. But it's not so you can move on to being outraged about some other non-issue. Sweet blog by-the-way!
ReplyDeleteI haven't really looked into the issue myself, except for that pre-tax deal I heard about on the radio, which sounded like it was pending.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks! Drop in any time.
