Quote du jour

Obama said, “Kids who grow up here and think of themselves as Americans… let’s make sure those kids can stay.” There’s no dispute that many of these children and teens often have heartbreaking stories, and no real emotional or physical connection to their country of legal citizenship. But thinking of yourself as an American is not the same as being an American. Citizenship is not a state of mind.

  1. The problem is that they do NOT think of themselves as Americans. English is still a second language to them. And cinco de mayo is still a holy day.

  2. The kids might think of themselves as Americans if they've been here long enough, but, as Mr. Geraghty pointed out, citizenship is not a state of mind.

    And whenever I see someone waving a Mexican flag because they are not granted the same rights as Americans, it just drives me nuts!
