Rubber faced, wildman comedian Robin Williams has reportedly died. More details as they become available. Possibly a suicide.
Oscar winner and comedian Robin Williams died this morning at 63. While his publicist wouldn’t confirm that his death was a suicide, a rep did issue this statement. “Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Update: "Sources close to the investigation" say he may have hanged himself. This would mesh with early reports of asphyxiation as cause of death.

Growing up, Jonathan Winters was the zany, off the wall extemporaneous comedian extraordinaire who blazed the path for Robin Williams. Williams often expressed his admiration for Winters. Robin Williams was the Winters of our generation. As Darth Wyatt tweeted, now he is the Winters of our discontent...

  1. Out of all the celebrity deaths over the years, this is the only one that caused my heart pain.

  2. He could have been bi-polar, what we used to call "manic depressive". His comedy persona was certainly manic. Depression is the flip side of it.
