Amateur Hour at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue: The Road Show

Smart lawyers know that one of the keys to success in open court, is not to ask any question that you don't know the answer to. The key to successful international summits, is to work out all of the details of whatever you are going to announce, before you ever depart for the summit.

Then you have Barack Hussein Obama. No US President in history had personally lobbied the International Olympic Committee to host the Olympics in a US city. You'd think, that according to the rules of successful international summits, that Obama and his handlers would not let him get embroiled in any international undertaking that did not have overwhelming odds of success.

Cue the trip to Copenhagen. Michelle and Barry shanghaied Oprah Winfrey to help them present Chicago's case to the IOC. Chicago was the very first city eliminated after the Obamas made their case.

Now, there is speculation that Obama was coerced into supporting this losing cause by political supporters as payback for their political patronage. Or maybe he just believes the hype and thought the power of his shining personality was enough to carry the day? Either way, he comes out of it looking weaker than when he went in.

The twenty five minute meeting with General McChrystal, tacked on at the end of his abortive Olympic diplomacy, in the midst of a fourteen hour plane ride to Copenhagen (or Oblivion - choose one), will provide little cover for the overall failure of the mission.

Amateur hour continues apace both at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and on the road!
