  1. Toynbee was a wit. Unfortunately, we have a great number of people in this country who think exactly along this line.

  2. Too many people are under the impression that "history" is a science of quantifiable events.
    I mean, it's all laid out there in the history texts, right?
    History is the interpretation of events. There are good and bad, correct and incorrect, biased and unbiased interpretations of history.

    Sometimes, everyman must be his own historian to get it right.
