McCain campaign communications director Jill Hazelbaker responded that Obama "has revealed himself to be just another typical politician who will do and say whatever is most expedient for Barack Obama."
"The true test of a candidate for President is whether he will stand on principle and keep his word to the American people," she continued in a statement released by the McCain campaign. "Barack Obama has failed that test today, and his reversal of his promise to participate in the public finance system undermines his call for a new type of politics. Barack Obama is now the first presidential candidate since Watergate to run a campaign entirely on private funds. This decision will have far-reaching and extraordinary consequences that will weaken and undermine the public financing system."
I was tempted not to do this story at all! Ho, hum...Barack Obama broke another promise...typical politician...and the usual suspects show up to contort logic beyond all recognition to tell us that black is white, hot is cold, yada, yada, yada.
Patterico put it thusly:
Obama’s word is his bond.
Unless keeping his word becomes inconvenient.
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
P.S. Obama’s pledge was crystal clear. So it will be interesting to see how many media organizations will report just how clear his pledge actually was.
Yeah! I'm gonna hold my breath waiting for the MSM to jump all over this one!
