Obama Ducking Town Hall Meet at Military Base

NYT: A coalition of military groups is planning a nationally televised town-hall-style meeting with the presidential candidates near Fort Hood, Tex., the largest active-duty military installation in the country. But so far, only Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, has agreed to attend.

The "largest active-duty military installation in the country". Obama brags about how much he gets in contributions from service men, here's a chance for him to bask in the adoration of his supporters!

CBS has agreed to broadcast the meeting live from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Aug. 11. The candidates would face questions directly from an audience of 6,000 people, made up of veterans, service members and military families from the base.

Wow! People across the country will be able to bask in the glow of the halo which is so often captured on film, and see the adulation he receives from his military supporters! Who wouldn't jump at the chance?

Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has not agreed to participate.

“Senator Obama strongly supports America’s veterans and military families and is hiding under his desk in the Senate, so no one can find him.”, said Phillip Carter

No, I made that last part up! He said:
"... has worked hard on their behalf in the Senate."

Yeah. Right.

“McCain and Obama are asking to be the next commander in chief. What’s a more compelling audience than this, the people that you have asked to maintain our security? It would be tremendous for the morale of this community.”
-Carissa Picard, managing director of the Fort Hood Presidential Town Hall Consortium, and wife of currently deployed Iraq war vet.

In terms of a campaign, Obama can run, but he cannot hide. He may be trying to keep his viability as a fundraiser open, knowing that the farther he veers to the center or right to win the general election, the more the nutroots withhold their contributions. Senator O'blurry should face the people he wants to represent and lead and quit playing the special interest politics that he promised he'd "change"!
