Why Do Democrats Running For President Always Run From Their Academic Records?

First, it was Hillary, she and Bill Conspired to keep her senior thesis under wraps for at least eight years, as noted in this post from March 2007: “Pick the Target, Freeze it, Personalize it and Polarize it.”

Just as conservative authors have speculated, it was the Clintons who asked Wellesley in 1993 to hide Hillary Rodham’s senior thesis from the first generation of Clinton biographers, according to her thesis adviser and friend, professor Alan H. Schechter, who describes taking the call from the White House. [See sidebar: A stupid political decision ]

Wellesley’s president, Nannerl Overholser Keohane, approved a broad rule with a specific application: The senior thesis of every Wellesley alumna is available in the college archives for anyone to read—except for those written by either a “president or first lady of the United States.” So far, that action has sealed precisely one document: Hillary Rodham’s senior honors thesis in political science, entitled “ ‘There Is Only the Fight...’: An Analysis of the Alinsky Model.”

Now we learn that Obama's senior year thesis from Columbia University is "missing". (Did they try looking in the Rose Law Firm records?) The Weekly Standard puts it thusly:

The Obama campaign, proving every bit as secretive as the Office of the Vice President, has been less than forthcoming with details. "Spokesman Ben LaBolt wouldn’t even say whether Sen. Obama threw out his copy or lost it." At an earlier date, an aide actually told the New Republic the junior senator couldn't recall what he had written about, but as that editor notes, "who doesn't remember their senior thesis?" To get the inside scoop, MSNBC contacted the former professor who taught Obama's senior seminar and who recalls the content of the paper better than Obama himself.

“We do not have a copy of the course paper you requested and neither does Columbia University,” Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt told NBC News.

First rule of Democratic candidacy: Leave no fingerprints! (The Bill C. corollary is leave no stains on blue dresses!)
