Obama's Speech

Charles Krauthammer on just a portion of what was wrong with Obama's speech.

While many in the MSM are gushing over "Professor" Obama, no one seems to have done any digging into how many of his "facts" Obama got wrong in his speech. He seems to credit, for example, the invention of the magnetic compass to Islam, rather than China, whom most acknowledge as the source. His exact words:

It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed.

Ah! They developed them! Another Kodak moment in weasel words!

Unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was a war of choice that provoked strong differences in my country and around the world.
That choice being Saddam Hussein's when he invaded Kuwait and then failed to live by the terms of the cease fire. Funny Barack didn't mention that!

And finally, just as America can never tolerate violence by extremists, we must never alter our principles. 9/11 was an enormous trauma to our country. The fear and anger that it provoked was understandable, but in some cases, it led us to act contrary to our ideals. We are taking concrete actions to change course. I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States, and I have ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed by early next year.
America didn't act contrary to its ideals. A few individuals broke the law and were punished. America is just fine, thank you very much! Then the Weasel-In-Chief says "I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States", as if we were torturing people before. The US waterboarded more soldiers, sailors and Marines than they did prisoners (3), yet this abomination of a President gives the impression the the US is a much viler place than it ever was.

Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.
which has been conspicuous in its absence in the last few decades*!

Now let me be clear: issues of women's equality are by no means simply an issue for Islam. In Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia, we have seen Muslim-majority countries elect a woman to lead. Meanwhile, the struggle for women's equality continues in many aspects of American life, and in countries around the world.
Yeah. Right.

One has to wonder if there was a point to his false moral equivalence on women's rights?

A few are trying to compare this to Reagan's "Tear Down This Wall" speech. I guess Obama's version goes: "Tear Down My Country"!

*Can I change that to "centuries" instead?
