“America Forgave Kennedy”

That was the sentiment of a commenter over at The Pirate's Cove, that all you right wingers just need to "move on" (my words, not his) because America had forgiven the drunken boor because of the sacrifice of his two brothers, Robert and John.

So, let's examine the premise: “America forgave Kennedy”
Wrong. Massachusetts forgave Kennedy. The only time he ran for national office after this, he was beaten by a peanut farmer.

The fools and liberals of Massachusetts (but I repeat myself!) inflicted this bloated buffoon on the rest of the country for forty years. America never “forgave” Kennedy because he never asked for their forgiveness. That would have required him to own up and confess what he had done. He never did.

His craven and cowardly act that night marked Teddy as unfit for national leadership. The nation has never forgotten that. There was no national "forgiveness", only tolerance of a wealthy and powerful man of weak character who escaped justice because of his wealth, his position and his family ties.
