Stick a fork in him, he's done! Not today, not tomorrow, but soon! Why? What did Joe do now, you might be asking yourself?
Nothing. No new gaffes, no scandal, no "live boy" as they say, just he's too...Joe!
After one full year in office, not a few people are looking past the 2010 mid term elections to the 2012 Presidential match up. Speculation is starting that Hillary might challenge Obama again (see video below). Look for Hillary to be shocked, shocked! over some difference with team Obama. Not this year. Maybe 2011. Hillary will be looking for a medium sized scandal, one that's large enough for her to leave "on principle", but not too large as to force her to denounce a sitting Democrat President. If no medium sized scandal erupts at a convenient time, look for her to take a small one as "the last straw", citing the cumulative effect of a number of small scandals since Barack took office. The net result will be the same and these will form the basis for her platform!
As to poor Joe, his usefulness has come and gone. He came to the ticket in 2008 with one thing that Obama didn't have...at least a pretense of foreign policy experience. Even if it was cockamamie schemes like dividing Iraq into three different countries, at least it was more than Barry had! In 2012, Barry will be able to point to his own record as President, however miserable it might be by then. Joe will be just another cranky, old guy who yells at kids to get off his lawn. I predict that Joe, for the "good of the party", will "decide" that he wants to "spend more time with his family" sometime between now and the end of 2011. Biden might use the "retiring for my health" ploy. That could conceivably give Obama's next running mate some OJT attending state funerals and the like before the 2012 elections. Biden may or may not take some cushy appointment or receive some quiet remuneration for his cooperation, but look for Clueless Joe Biden to be replaced on the ticket for 2012, most likely by a woman.
Team Obama needs to inoculate itself against Hillary voters with the prospect of his being the First President with the foresight to choose the First Woman Vice-president cum First Woman President (in four years) to combat the Hillary insurgency, not to mention what he might face if Sarah Palin enters the race on the other side. (Please don't mention either Walter Mondull or Geraldine Ferraro. It's bad form!)
Lady X will appeal to a younger demographic than would a 70 year old Biden (she'd have to, unless Nancy Pelosi can find some industrial strength Botox!). Lady X will be "Rock the Vote". Biden would be "When I was a kid, we didn't even have rocks!" Plus, the odds of Democrats retaining the White House with a 74 year old gaffe machine in 2016 are slim, none and you have got to be kidding me!
Political prognostication is never pretty, but there it is. Joe Biden will not be Barack Obama's running mate in 2012. He will have a lot more time to hang out at the Home Depot and Katie's Restaurant.
Don't say I didn't warn you, Joe!

You may have come on something here. It would be a good move for Obama and he has no problem tossing people under the bus once they have served their purpose or been exposed for the true radicals they really are. Yep, Biden is history in 2012 and will have to go home. As for Hillary, I have no idea what she will do. You may have a good point there too.
ReplyDeleteI calls 'em as I sees 'em. It's like the Super Bowl: If I tell you that the Colts are going to play the Saints, that's no big. Had I told you a year ago that the Colts would play the Saints in the Super Bowl, that would be the money quote!
ReplyDeleteWe'll see in time if I was ahead of the curve or not.
