I watch The Rifleman on Saturday mornings while drinking my coffee because basically it's the only thing in the 5-7 a.m.ish time slots that isn't a get rich quick scheme info-mercial. It's on AMC (ch. 130 on dish).
I liked the Rifleman. Like most of the westerns of this era, the hero tried to mind his own business and only kill people that needed killing, and then, only as a last resort. Words to live by!
I thought Chuck was a football player in college. Wiki says he was a professional basketball and baseball player. Big fella, though...
Interesting article...says he got his nickname "Chuck", playing first base, because he would always yell, "Chuck it to me, baby, chuck it to me!" to the pitcher.
He served in the Army during WWII, "spent most of the war as a tank-warfare instructor".
And, he was a Republican! (The good ones always are!)
