I can't tell you how many times my little professional ballroom dancer feet immediately start to choreograph that song. I can visualize sitting on the floor with my dance partner, both of us equipped with paper and pencil, counting off the measures, and plugging in the steps.
Don't knock the box step. It's the basic step for fox trot, waltz, and samba.
I can remember a few students that were so bad, I'd have to draw a box on the dang floor with chalk. I kid you not!!! They were usually the same ones who couldn't hear the boom shush shush of a waltz. I'd have them put their hands on top of speakers so they could feel it.
West Coast swing is not easy so don't be hard on yourself. The count is a bit weird at first. The triple step (1&2 3&4) is not exactly evenly spaced. In other words the &2 are closer together than the 1 &. It's sort of like playing triplets on the drums.

I. Commenting here is a privilege, not a right.
II. Disagreement is welcome, even encouraged, but spam, unduly profane, or offensive speech is subject to removal by the staff and management of this blog. Insults from the FBI (Foul mouthed, Boring and Ignorant) and anonymous trolls hardest hit.
III. Feel free to use, in unaltered form, any Photoshops I create with the 'Proof Positive' address on them. A simple link in return is all we ask, so anyone else who likes it knows where to find more.
IV. As a matter of policy, I never knowingly print lies or untruths in my blog, unless I'm quoting correctly the liberal who told them.
That was one of my very favorite songs. Wonderful Foxtrot...
ReplyDeleteDon't know about the foxtrot, but I've always liked this song.

ReplyDeleteLovely!
Anything beyond a box step and I'm two left feet. I started to learn West Coast Swing a while back, but that's a story for another time...
