I propose that the new state be called "Coastalfornia". It would be geographically divided, as Pakistan used to be, with the San Francisco Bay area in the north and Los Angeles and its environs in the south. This would turn the rest of the state red, and would give us two conservative senators, which would at least cancel out the votes of the Coastalfornians.
