I've Got Good News and Bad News...
The good news is that the Republicans are taking over control of the House. The bad news is, in California, Jerry Brown is going to be our governor and Babs Bouncer will remain in the Senate.
In a related story, California Republicans are on suicide watch...

Jerry Brown Panders (More Than Usual*) for Votes
So what's new? Jerry Brown has been making a big deal over saying he will not raise taxes...without voter approval. What he has not said is that he won't further bankrupt the state. Here's what he has to say about paying for illegals to go to school:
"We have enough wealth..." We? You got a mouse in your pocket, Jerry? The state is broke. We don't have enough wealth to meet the obligations we already have without taking on more. This is pandering, plain and simple.

Gov. Moonbeam on Illegal Immigration (1996)
His thesis seems to be that if we keep Mexico as a perpetual third world country and raise wages here, there would be no incentive for so many people to cross the border.
What?????

Ladies: Be Thankful Jerry Brown Isn't Your Doctor!
...he's just the guy who might save the state a buck in denying your access to a mammogram. Politico, hardly a right wing apparatus, has an old video of candidate Jerry Brown:
“Ten thousand women, three women will be saved for one year." -Jerry Brown
Whatever happened to "Those decisions should be between a woman and her doctor"?
This video is a precursor to health care rationing. Look for even more if Brown takes the reins of a near bankrupt state.
Even more ironic is that this comes to light after the endorsement from NOW, a group that also ironically touts itself as "pro women".
Update: I just had an unpleasant thought. Jerry Brown has had aspirations for the Oval Office before. Could it be in this geezer's mind, that if he can just retake the Governor's mansion, he will run for President again to replace Obama's broken promises with a genuine California brand of misery? Just a thought...

Jerry Brown: Police Chiefs Don't Read
Jerry Brown sticks his other foot in his mouth! Gosh, Jerry! How do you think they got to the top of their profession without reading? (3:23 in the video)

Theater of the Bizarre: NOW Endorses Jerry Brown
by the Left Coast Rebel
Yesteryday I was writing for Pajamas Media on the "whore" comment made by a Brown staffer, released by an L.A. police union group:
This in turn was perhaps the most ludicrous aspect of the story, excerpted:

Where is the feminist outrage? As Dan Riehl noted, when a staffer to Alaskan GOP senate candidate Joe Miller likened rival Lisa Murkowski's potential Libertarian party bid to the "oldest profession in the world," the feminist reaction was swift, just and vocal. What would be the equivalent to this from a conservative group? I can't think of a better example of NOW being a front group for leftist-extremist causes and 'standing by their man' no matter what. How 'feminist' is that? Sounds more like battered wife syndrome to me.
But proving that there is no shame or boundaries for sleaze in politics today - the National Organization for Women in California endorsed Jerry Brown within 24 hours of the incident. Brown waved around the endorsement as his spokesman denied any connection to the timing. The start page at the National Organization for Women has an article condemning senator Jim DeMint but nothing on "Whoregate" as well.
Can you imagine?

Breaking News: Brown Aide Calls Whitman a "Whore"
And if there's one thing the Democrats are experts on...
Reminiscent of the voicemail recordings that torpedoed Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin, the Jerry Brown campaign has shot itself in the foot in a similar fashion. After Brown had made a solicitation phone call, he apparently thought he'd disconnected, but must have put his phone on speaker, while the voicemail continued to record.
Jerry Brown: “Do we want to put an ad out? … That I have been warned if I crack down on pensions, I will be – that they’ll go to Whitman, and that’s where they’ll go because they know Whitman will give ‘em, will cut them a deal, but I won’t.”
Second voice: “What about saying she’s a whore?”
Jerry Brown: “Well, I’m going to use that. It proves you’ve cut a secret deal to protect the pensions.”
Stay classy, Democrats!

Jerry Brown: The Ghost of Fiascoes Past
If you liked Gray Davis, you'll love his old boss!
Thomas Sowell reminds us of the Ghost of Fiascoes Past that was Jerry Brown:
At one time, Gov. Jerry Brown was riding high in the Democratic party, and was considered a rising prospect for that party’s nomination for president of the United States. Then something happened that told us all what kind of man he was. There was an infestation of Mediterranean fruit flies out in California’s agricultural heartland in the interior valleys. Despite being urged to allow spraying of insecticide out in the valleys, to nip the infestation in the bud, Governor Brown pandered to the environmental extremists and refused. The net result was that the “Med flies,” as they were called, spread from the valleys out into cities and towns as far west as the San Francisco Bay area. Faced with a major political disaster, Jerry Brown finally authorized spraying — over a vastly larger area than would have been necessary when he was first asked. That fiasco spared us a Jerry Brown administration in Washington.
Sowell also touches upon Brown's appointment of Chief Justice Rose Bird to the CA Supreme Court:
Bird overruled 64 consecutive death-penalty verdicts and upheld none. Apparently no judge or jury could ever give a murderer a trial perfect enough to suit Rose Bird.
When Bird came up for confirmation, as required by CA law, she was rejected by 67% of California voters. As should Jerry Brown have been, and now, should be.

If You Liked Gray Davis, You'll Love His Old Boss!
I know that some of you folks aren't old enough to remember the first time that Jerry Brown, a.k.a. "Governor Moonbeam" was governor of California. So it may come as some surprise to you who was working as Jerry Brown's Chief of Staff: Gray Davis.
Yes, that Gray Davis! The one that Californian's were so fed up with, that they held a very expensive recall election just to get rid of.
Here's Gray Davis doing his Chevy Chase impression next to former Governor Jerry Brown.
(Like "former President Jimmy Carter", "former Governor Brown" has a nice ring to it!)
But, don't underestimate Jerry Brown. After his first term of office, I was almost certain that there was no way this clown could get re-elected. But he did. One way was by never letting the facts get in the way of a good story.
I remember when Brown was up for re-election and he was running against Republican Evelle Younger. During a debate, where former Governor Pat Brown and his wife were in the audience, Younger, ever the courteous gentleman, spoke to Mrs. Brown and said, "With all due respect, Mrs. Brown, your son is the worst governor in the history of California.*"
Brown was interviewed on the radio the next day and generated as much faux outrage as he could muster and accused Younger of "insulting my mother". It was an absurd thing to say for anybody who heard the debate, but Brown was gambling that more people listened to the radio than watched the debate. The lie was out there about Younger's character...completely the opposite of the respect Younger showed Mrs. Brown , but the impression left by her weaselly, lying son was out there.
Coincidentally, Governor Moonbeam is "out there". Among the false impressions he is spreading this campaign, is that he is some big "law and order candidate".
This is a man who opposes the death penalty, appointed a California Supreme Court Chief Justice who strongly opposed the death penalty, and I will bet you that if this liar gets re-elected to the Governor's chair, he will exercise his right to commute the sentences of death row inmates. This fellow who could not be executed this week because some of the drugs had expired has nothing to fear from a Jerry Brown administration. The people of California do.
Update: I've decided to free lance for the Brown campaign. I've been coming up with some pretty good slogans. In addition to "If You Liked Gray Davis, You'll Love His Old Boss", I've got: "Jerry Brown: Gray Davis without all that pesky hair!"
*Note: If Gloria Allred is listening, this is my recollection from over thirty years ago, so it may not be verbatim. Please don't call me a "liar".

Jerry Brown: Fictional Crimefighter
In 2006, while running for AG, one of Brown's opponents ran this ad. It may be noteworthy today, in light of ads that the former Governor Moonbeam is running these days portraying himself as a law and order candidate, and the news that California may be executing a death row inmate soon.
For those with short memories, or who weren't born when Jerry actively opposed the death penalty, to the point of appointing the infamous Rose Bird as Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, according to wiki:
She reviewed a total of 64 capital cases appealed to the court. In each instance she issued a decision overturning the death penalty that had been imposed at trial.
Sixty four cases. Sixty four times Bird voted to overturn the death penalty. Rose Bird was ideologically opposed to the death penalty as was Brown. Brown appointed Bird as Chief Justice in a state where the electorate voted to uphold the death penalty by a two to one margin.
We used to say that "Jerry Brown gave California the Bird!"
As AG, Brown is touting his position as "Chief Law Enforcement agent of the state", as in order to appeal to the center (or the uninformed). He may even play a role in this upcoming execution to bolster his law and order cred. Whether he cynically takes credit for it or subtly undermines it on some point of procedure remains to be seen.
In the meantime, look for Brown to continue to tout his imaginary zeal for law enforcement with a straight face.

Bill Clinton for Meg Whitman?
Just this AM saw a powerful new ad for the Whitman campaign, starring...Bill Clinton!
Brown's commercials talk about how he "cut taxes" (a claim powerfully undercut by this commercial) and how he will only raise taxes "with voter approval", which I suspect, he will seek a lot!
