Barbarians At The Gate?
You know, I think it is long past time that we dust off another good word that has been little used for too long: barbarians. [ bahr-bair-ee-uhn ]
noun
a person in a savage, primitive state; uncivilized person.
a person without culture, refinement, or education; philistine.
(loosely) a foreigner.
(in ancient and medieval periods)
a non-Greek.
a person living outside, especially north of, the Roman Empire.
a person not living in a Christian country or within a Christian civilization.
adjective
uncivilized; crude; savage.
foreign; alien.
ORIGIN OF BARBARIAN
1540–50; < Latin barbari(a) barbarous country (see barbarous, -ia) + -an
The idea of the barbarian is essentially that which is foreign, that which is strange. Barbarism is often posited as that which is foreign to, different from civilization. We who are civilized see that which is foreign and strange to us, that which is outside our experience of treating other people civilly and respecting their property rights. What we are seeing in our Democrat controlled big cities and states is barbarism, in that those who are rioting, committing arsons and assaults are strangers to the founding principles of this nation: individual freedom, individual responsibility and the ownership of private property.
I am not a big fan of public art. Some committee commissions an artist to create something to enhance our lives somehow. Yeah. Right. Have you noticed most of the "art", publicly funded these days, is somewhat hideous? Some of it looks like random piles of rusted junk, salvaged from the nearest scrap yard. I'm reminded of at least one museum exhibit where the "artist" conceptualized a wastebasket, overturned with trash spilling out of it, which when seen, after hours, by the museum's janitorial staff, much like the boy in The Emperor's New Clothes, recognized it for what it truly was and proceeded to clean up the mess!
Art, like beauty, may be in the eye of the beholder, but that doesn't give me the right to hitch a rope or a chain to any public art I might not like or agree with, and tear it down. But we have seen statues of saints and abolitionists, ripped from their pedestals and/or defaced, because they somehow offended the new barbarians. Our Founding Fathers may be next. Some barbarians are threatening to "blow up" Mount Rushmore. If the barbarians have their way, they will eradicate as much US history as possible, tear down our society as it exists and substitute anarchy in its place.
But, anarchy is not the ultimate goal. It is means to an end. We've seen the like before, in 1920s Germany, where the populace became so sick and tired of crime in the streets, and the debauchery of society, that they welcomed a government that promised law and order, if they would only commit to the government the power to make things better.
Coincidentally (?) this was also brought about by defunding the police, so that there would be no domestic force to stop them. The Nazis then substituted community enforcers. From their "community". Beware, lest we fall into the same trap.
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Barbarians At The Gate? No. They are inside the walls. Inside the city. Where they will be infinitely harder to root out. But, let's at least call them what they are:
The New Barbarians. Foreign to our democracy. Foreign to our culture. Foreign to liberty.

The Power of James Woods
This #AntifaGoon screamed she didn't want her picture taken while being arrested. Please respect her privacy. Do not retweet 10,000 times. pic.twitter.com/r0dNSGxEEl— James Woods (@RealJamesWoods) August 29, 2017
James Woods asked facetiously that this Tweet not be retweeted 10,000 times. He got his wish.
It was retweeted nearly 50,000 times!

Masked Thugs of the Radical Left
I posted this little snippet up on You Tube, because the still shots I took just didn't convey the violent, mindless rage that 'skateboard boy' exhibits here.
On the right hand side of your screen, you see a thug in a white mask 'cold cock' a guy just standing there, apparently minding his own business, knocking him to the ground, then the thug backs away. Shortly after that, in the same area, you see a guy in a hoodie carrying a skateboard, who gets in the face of someone trying to help this guy who was just knocked down, then he moves over and raises his board above his head and starts whaling on people multiple times. Also note the guy in the helmet who comes up along side him. I've seen him before. He was the thug who stole a bottle of water from a disabled vet in a wheelchair and squirted him with it. Nice guys.
IMHO, skateboard boy is carrying the board as a weapon, with plausible deniability. "Who, me, officer? No, I was just riding this here skateboard!" Or like Trayvon Martin's screwdriver. "Burglary tool? No man, I just need it in case I need to fix some stuff, that's all!" Still, I can count the number of people I see out skateboarding in the summertime in their masks and hoodies, and carrying long screwdrivers to school in their backpacks on one hand and have five digits left over.
Antifa is all about deniability. They wear the masks and hoodies and helmets so they can't be recognized and held responsible. They carry skateboards and bicycle locks and soda cans filled with hardened cement, so they don't look explicitly like weapons, but what else would you use an aluminum can filled with cement for?
And who takes the time to do such a thing before attending a political rally? That's called "premeditation".
Antifa are cowards who strike without provocation. They preach the doctrine of "preemptive self defense", declare it's "okay to punch a Nazi" and then categorize anyone who disagrees with them as a "Nazi" or "White supremacist".
In actuality, they are anarchists, bringing chaos and confusion in their wake. This is intention. They are intent on breaking down society, Balkanizing as many groups as possible, bringing about the destruction of our government as we know it, to be replaced with a more socialist or communist ruling class, to rule with an iron fist, of course!
They cover the iron fist with platitudes about being "anti-fascist", but their actions are more in line with fascism than any group they are opposing. In attempting to hijack the mantle of "ant-fascists", even comparing themselves favorably to those brave men who stormed the beaches on D-Day, they convince few outside the far left. Poking a police horse with a stick with nails in it does not make you a hero. Tossing bottles of urine and feces on innocent bystanders does not make you a champion of the people. Beating up grandmothers for holding an American flag does not make you an "anti-fascist", it makes you a cowardly thug.
Even Democrats are starting to back away from these violent radicals. Better late than never.

A Modest Proposal Regarding Antifa*
*with apologies to Jonathan Swift
We all know that the vicious hooligans who call themselves "Antifa", aside from having virtually no fashion style, or in all truth, no discernible intellectual ability, tend to dress in all black: black hoodie, mask, sunglasses, black slacks, black hearts...which makes it somewhat difficult to identify the perpetrator when one of these mindless cattle temporarily leaves the herd and attacks someone, typically, for no valid reason.
The similarity of dress enables their cowardly retreat from taking responsibility for their actions, allowing them to hide in the crowd. I'd like to suggest that the police add another tune to their repertoire of crowd control: the paint ball gun.
Designate one or more officers to scan the crowds for signs of trouble. If they see someone acting out and have a clear shot - mark them. Maybe use that indelible dye they put in dye packs to deter bank robbers?** Send out a spotter with them to make sure the intended target alone is hit and there is no collateral damage. This will help police positively identify the lawbreaker to be taken into custody. They could even change the color of dye with each engagement, in case Antifa were to add their own paint ball splatters to try to create confusion.
From personal experience, I can tell you that getting hit with a paintball can both be painful and leave a mark. But we know from the infamous "pepper ball" incident, that Antifa is willing to make the sacrifice to take one for the team if necessary.
We should let them.
**Perhaps even some dye pack "grenades"? Toss them into an unruly crowd and see how they like getting their trendy black hoodies and Yeezys dyed to a more tranquil, peaceful, hippie tie-dye motif?
Update: A commenter over at Watcher of Weasels suggested adding microscopic tags to the paint balls, to "make it less subject to confusion, and you wouldn't run out of codes nearly as quickly as you run out of colors." Great idea!

"Hands Up, Don't Shoot!"
Is it just me or does it look like the guy in this antifa poster is about to bayonet a black man?
Q. What's the difference between antifa, the KKK and ISIS?
A. I don't know. You tell me!
