Three states require a license to be dietician: “Dietetic technicians must spend 800 days in education and training, making for the eighth most burdensome requirements.” Mind you, this isn’t medical treatment, this is encouraging people to eat more vegetables and not deep-fry food. Honestly, you need a license to grill.

Quote du jour

The world did not fall apart after the U.S. pulled out of the flawed Iran nuclear deal. Most yawned when the U.S. left the symbolic but empty Paris Climate Accord. Ditto when the U.S. moved its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. In retrospect, most Americans accept that such once-controversial decisions were not ever all that controversial.

Find the Hidden Keyboard

There's a keyboard hidden in the zebra picture I used for this week's masthead. I've made it a little easier for you. The original picture, as you can see, was about twice as tall, plus to obtain the proper ratio for my purpose, I had to overlap it, so there's actually two keyboards for you to find in the logo above.

Happy hunting!

Suppressors are a non-lethal firearm accessory that lower the sound of a rifle shot, which unsuppressed is as loud as the sound of a jet engine taking off, at about 150 decibels. Suppressors lower the sound to about 130 decibels at most, which is about the same sound level as a chainsaw.

Quote du jour

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American.
If he tries to separate from the rest of America, then he isn’t doing his part as an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language, for we intend to see that the crucible turns out people out as Americans, of American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding house; and we have room for but one soul loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

My Chicago 2 AM Adventure

I just got back from a business trip to Chicago...
(Business trip? I thought you were retired?)
(Shut up!)
I was sitting in a bar, telling the bartender that Barbra Streisand was the most overrated singer of the 20th century. At closing time, I got up and grabbed a handful of peanuts for the walk back to the hotel.

When I stepped outside, I was accosted by two figures, wearing "pussy hats", singing "People who need people". I dropped the peanuts to the sidewalk. (Note to Jussie Smollett: it's the small details that sell the story!)

Like with Jussie, the whole encounter was less than sixty seconds. It wasn't a fair fight. At two to one, they should have known better!

I told the Chicago Police they could identify the scene by the scattered peanuts and the blood stained pink yarn left behind.
