Proof :
Singing the National Anthem at the Lincoln Memorial should produce goose bumps, not goose steps.
Call it perhaps a toxic mixture of George Orwell's 1984, free speech suppression, nanny-state-lunatic laws and the general failure of our nation to uphold our founding principals.
Who would have even thought that it would be illegal to sing the National Anthem at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.? Our nation has far exceeded the level of tyranny that our forefathers fled from. King George had nothing on the liberty-crushing, Leviathan nanny-state that we have inherited. Why didn't officials take it just one step further and smash the cameras that taped the illegal national anthem event too?
Fox News reports:
A group of high school students attending a conservative leadership conference
in Washington, D.C. said they were ordered by a security guard to stop singing the national anthem during a June 25 visit to the Lincoln Memorial.
U.S. Park Police confirmed that the students were in violation of federal law and their impromptu performance constituted a demonstration in an area that must remain “completely content neutral.”
The incident occurred on June 25 as students were taking a monument tour of the nation’s capital. The decision to sing the national anthem at the memorial was a spur of the moment event, according to Shawn Balcomb, of Richmond Hill, GA.
There is hope for our nation though, God bless these students for engaging in 'civil disobedience':
....the students would have been in compliance had they moved approximately 25 steps from where they were standing.
“It’s not the content of their activity – that being the national anthem – it’s the location,” he said. “A couple steps and it would have been no problem whatsoever.”
Instead of doing as they were instructed, Gassman said the students resumed the song – an impromptu form of civil disobedience.
God help us. Cross posted to Left Coast Rebel.
All that was left was for security to shout "Raus! Raus!, Macht Schnell! Schnell!"
ReplyDeleteSilverfiddle: I understand three French tourists surrendered during the incident.
ReplyDelete(I apologize! I love the French! The stereotypes sure make for such great one liners, though!)
" 'an area that must remain “completely content neutral.'" may describe a vacant lot, but certainly not the Lincoln Memorial. Good for these GREAT YOUNG PEOPLE for defying the idiot who told them to stop as well as the "supposed" law that allegedly says they couldn't!
