"Conservatives Love War"

... is the mindless, hate filled calumny we conservatives have heard on more than one occasion. Typically, the charge is leveled by some effete twit who has had absolutely no contact with military service or the men who fill her ranks.

Here is one such conservative voice on his love of war:

Unless you are a veteran you might find it odd that I would be indebted to the Navy for sending me to war. You might mistakenly conclude that the secret veterans’ share is that they enjoyed war.

We do share a secret, but it is not a romantic remembrance of war. War is awful. When nations seek to resolve their differences by force of arms, a million tragedies ensue. Nothing, not the valor with which it is fought nor the nobility of the cause it serves, can glorify war. War is wretched beyond description. Whatever gains are secured by war, it is loss that the veteran remembers. Only a fool or a fraud sentimentalizes the cruel and merciless reality of war.

Neither do we share a nostalgia for the exhilaration of combat. That exhilaration, after all, is really the sensation of choking back fear. I think we are all proud to have once overcome the paralysis of terror. But few of us are so removed from the memory of that terror to mistake it today for a welcome thrill.

What we share is something harder to explain. It is in part a pride for having sacrificed together for a cause greater than our individual pursuits; pride for having your courage and honor tested and affirmed in a fearsome moment of history; pride for having replaced comfort and security with misery and deprivation and not been broken by the experience.

We also share—and this is harder to explain—the survivors’ humility. That’s a provocative statement, I know, and the non-veteran may easily mistake its meaning. I am not talking about shame. I know of no shame in surviving combat. But every combat veteran remembers those comrades whose sacrifice was eternal. Their loss taught us everything about tragedy and everything about duty.

Democrats Fear the Bogeyman!

Makes as much sense as any explanation they've been putting forth!

President Al Gore

One of the scariest things to contemplate, is what would have happened if Al Gore had been President on 9/11/01 and what his response to the terrorists would have been?

Fortunately for us, we never had to find out. But the reason for Albert's loss is one of the more amusing bits of irony in American history!

As I have pointed out in other venues, the Democrats have no one to blame but themselves that the exalted enviroweenie Algore is NOT the President of the United States!
The Republicans in the House impeached Clinton. The Linguine-spined Democrats in the Senate refused to convict. Because of their cowardice (or because Bill had something on them), Al Gore was NOT the incumbent President going into the 2000 elections. (The same Al who said he would have done things differently in Florida with Elian Gonzalez had he been President!)

So, the cowardly Democrats denied Al both the incumbency and the chance to improve his standing in Florida, either one of which would have undoubtedly tipped the race in his favor.

And so, you have only gutless Democrats to thank for why Al's campaign slogan wasn't: Re-Elect President Al Gore!

One of the two most delicious ironies I know!

Update: To be fair, I really should give the Dems another out. Extreme partisanship would have the same look as cowardice. (The results are still the same!)

Newt Gingrich on the Obama Wright Dustup

Poor Newt! Can't get no respect! He made this statement about a week ago, and I just stumbled on it today. Really seems to be a concise, thoughtful analysis of what actually transpired...

So, here's question; if you knew a year ago that (Wright) was saying things so anti-American, so dishonest, so hateful, that you were going to have to disown him, then...why did you only disown him when it became such a big political issue? And if you thought what he was saying was false and wrong and to be condemned, why didn't you care enough for him to try to teach him the truth? I don't think he can have it both ways...

...I mean, one of two things are true. Either he has always believed these were terrible things, in which case, he showed a remarkable lack of courage in describing to his own minister, the truth, or he didn't actually mind it as long as it wasn't public."

Hillary "DeathWatch" at Slate

Too funny! This is the equivalent of watching Wile E. Coyote chew off his leg to escape a Roadrunner trap, and he's chewing the wrong leg! :)
Slate starts off:
Hillary Clinton is as good as dead.

...To start off, we're putting her odds at a generous 12 percent. (Last week, a Clinton campaign official gave her one-in-10 odds.) At the moment, polls indicate that Obama has survived the Jeremiah Wright flap (for now). Clinton's Bosnia blunder has metastasized from a headache into a five-day circus. Bill Richardson finally climbed down from his fence onto Obama's side. And a Michigan court yesterday deemed the state's Jan. 15 primary unconstitutional and declined to order a revote, effectively smothering the last glimmer of hope for a deus ex Michigana bailout. Meanwhile, a new poll puts her favorability rating at 37 percent—its lowest since March 2001.

Snowball's Chance in Hell

The "Reverend" Jeremiah Wright is known for his "prophetic" speech, right? The following is an example of why men who profess to preach the gospel should stick to immutable truth.

From Jeremiah Wright's last sermon:
"How many children of biracial parents can make it in a world controlled by racist ideology?" Wright said.

"Children born to parents who are of two different races do not have a snowball's chance in hell of making it in America, especially if the momma was white and the daddy was black. A child born to that union is an unfortunate statistic in a racially polarized society," he said.

Yeah! Pity poor Obama! Child of two different races, US Senator, candidate for President, pulls down, what? Close to a Million dollars a year with his wife (like he did in 2006?) or the $1.7 Million they pulled down in 2005? Rough life! (And don't get me started on Halle Berry!)

Snowballs chance in hell? Perhaps the wrong "Reverend" Wright has been getting grammar lessons from Bill Clinton? It all depends on the meaning of "snowball" and "in" and " Hell"!
And don't forget "chance"! :)

Rachel Lucas went on to list a few more:

Off the top of my head, I can think of several snowballs in hell right now, all of whom I’m pretty sure have “made it in America”, and this is just in the entertainment/sports area:

Tiger Woods
Halle Berry
Derek Jeter
Mariah Carey
Tina Turner
Alicia Keys
Bob Marley
Jimi Hendrix
Jennifer Beals
Lenny Kravitz

Plus, guess who? Malcolm X himself.

Two seconds on Google produced this list and it’s literally just the tip of the iceberg (these are just the famous ones).

Once More Into the Breach!

Not really sure if this is going to work! I started a blog once before. It is true that a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds. But, my output was not very consistent.
(Hobgoblins would have done a better job!) :)

But, I have been contributing on a fairly regular basis over at Say Anything
for a couple of years. It hasn't been too painful for either myself or the readers there.

So, I thought I might try my hand at it once again. It's a lot easier to criticize someone for doing it badly when you're not doing it at all! So, in for a penny, in for a pound!
Who knows? It may be good for a laugh!

Incidentally, I began blogging with a pseudonym, because there were a lot of commenters at Say Anything with my same first name. And some of the, shall we say charitably, dumbest statements being made there were terribly misspelled. I took the Nom de Cyber: "Proofreader Emeritus". Some of my posts at SA can be read here if you like! Along the way, I shortened it to "Proof".

If you drop by Rob Port's Say Anything, poke around a little bit! It's one of the best political blogs in the country and has a lot of good people stopping by. Rob is my blogging hero! If I were to attain the smallest fraction of his success, I would be turning backflips!

Drop me a line. Say Hello. Let me know what's on your mind. You'll certainly know what's on mine! -p
