Ten Buck Friday Scorecard Update

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It's official. In case you haven't heard, the last Ten Buck Friday race has been decided. Bill Cassidy easily rolled over the hapless Mary Landrieu to bring the number of Ten Buck Friday victories to 7

Ten Buck Fridayans contributed to 8 races plus the Louisiana runoff, kicking Harry Reid's keister in Colorado, North Carolina, Arkansas, Iowa, Georgia, Alaska and now Louisiana.

Once again, I want to thank my fellow Ten Buck Friday bloggers on a job well done.

Even with a majority, the road ahead will not be an easy one. The current Republican leadership is already caving on matters of principle and importance.

You made your will known in the election, you need to continue to make your voices heard until, like George Bush with his bullhorn, they will all hear us.

Congratulations Mr. Cassidy! Make the people of Louisiana and the rest of us proud!

The Return of Ten Buck Friday

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Week Three of a Nine Week Mission, to Seek Out new life for the Senate, to Boldly Go where our nation needs to be!

Focusing on the Senate races (Republicans need just six seats to oust the Dimbulb from Searchlight, Harry Reid as majority leader, ten to show Obama what the country really thinks of him!), is it worth ten bucks a week (1 1/2 lbs. of bacon?) to eliminate Reid's control and give the Senate responsible leadership again?

With that in mind, this week we look to the open Senate seat in AR. Can you contribute just $10 to Senate candidate Tom Cotton?

Real Clear Politics has Cotton up 1.7 points on the average, and rates the state as a toss up.

You can contribute to Tom Cotton here. Good luck and Godspeed, Tom!

(If you mark your contribution as "Ten Buck Friday", they'll see if the blogosphere can give them a little bump.)

Note: I've gotten one report back of difficulty donating through that link. I tried it myself just now, and it worked perfectly. Let me know if you have any trouble donating and we'll contact the campaign if necessary. -Proof

Week Two of a Nine Week Mission, to Seek Out new life for the Senate, to Boldly Go where our nation has been before!

Once again focusing on the Senate races (Republicans need just six seats to oust the Dimbulb from Searchlight, Harry Reid as majority leader), is it worth ten bucks a week (30 pkgs. of Ramen?) to eliminate Reid's control and give the Senate responsible leadership again?

With that in mind, this week we look to the open Senate seat in IA. Can you contribute just $10 to Senate candidate Joni Ernst?

Real Clear Politics has Ernst up .2 points on the average, and rates the state as a toss up.

You can contribute to Joni Ernst here. Good luck and Godspeed, Joni!

The Return of Ten Buck Friday

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Back in halcyon years of old (2010), some conservative bloggers put forth a plan where, a poll would be taken of conservative candidates around the country and the winner would be the recipient of a ten dollar contribution to their campaign from each of the participants. Forgive me for not taking a poll, but there are only nine Fridays between now and the midterm elections. Our country has not had a budget passed in the Senate since 2009, forcing a series of continuing resolutions which keep the nation at the brink of a shut down and masks the obscene amounts of money that the President and Congress want to spend. Hundreds of bills passed in the House are not even brought up for a vote in Harry Reid's Senate.

Focusing on the Senate races (Republicans need just six seats to oust the bottleneck, hyper partisan Harry Reid as majority leader), is it worth ten bucks a week (two lattes?) to eliminate Reid's control and give the Senate responsible leadership again?

With that in mind, this week we look to the open Senate seat in GA. Can you contribute just $10 to Senate candidate David Perdue?

Real Clear Politics has Perdue up 3.8 points on the average, but rates the state as a toss up.

You can contribute to David Perdue here. Good luck and Godspeed, David!

(If you mark your contribution as "Ten Buck Friday", they'll see if the blogosphere can give them a little bump.)

Is Barbara Bouncer Up for Re-election This Year?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I just got an email from Barbara Bouncer*, er, Boxer, which is pretty unusual in itself, but this one celebrates the glory of the Lunar New Year:

Dear Friend:

In the coming days, families will celebrate the Lunar New Year, one of the most important holidays in many Asian cultures, which falls on January 31st in 2014 – the Year of the Horse.

The Lunar New Year is a time for families to come together. Communities around the globe mark this celebratory occasion by gathering with loved ones, paying respects to elders and ancestors, and reflecting on the past. It is also a time to look toward the future with a sense of hope and renewal.

As people come together to celebrate the diverse history and cultures of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in California and across the nation, I offer warm wishes to all for a happy and healthy Lunar New Year.

Sincerely, Barbara Boxer

Trying to figure out if it's a simple pandering for votes, or if there's an extra special whiff of desperation in Ms. Boxer's campaign this year?

*Barbara Bouncer was the name given to her in the days of the House Banking scandal, where Congress critters wrote copious and large amounts of checks against insufficient funds, knowing the House "Bank" would treat them as interest free loans.

Phony Budget Compromise is Selling us A Bill of Goods

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Obama's not the only one putting lipstick on this pig!

In my callow youth, I can remember various Congresses putting forth their "budget solutions". In fact, most of them had some great five and ten year plans, which, admittedly were heavy on spending on the front end, but boy do those savings kick in at the rear of the plan! And then, the next Congress, which was not bound by anything in the previous one, would come up with their own ten year plan, which, admittedly were heavy on spending on the front end, but boy do those savings kick in at the rear! After having been kicked in the rear by Congress after Congress, who were serious about spending but not serious about saving, we stand on the edge of a fiscal cliff. Some would say we've already gone over and there's no hope of return. Hope springs eternal.

Which brings us to the latest ten year program to deal with fiscal responsibility. I must admit that when I first heard there was a budget compromise sponsored by Paul Ryan and the ditsy Democrat Patty Murray, I figured it was a 50/50 split between the Onion and Saturday Night Live. It was neither. The more we learned about it, the more it became apparent that this was a compromise among politicians, for politicians. What is best for the country was not on the table.

America is deeply in debt. Congress spends more money than it takes in and spends more money each year than it did the year before. This cannot go on. The so called "compromise" includes tax increases, with virtually no real spending cuts, lifts many of the restrictions placed upon spending by the sequester, and the only thing the Republicans seemed to have garnered in their compromise, is a promise from the Democrats not to shut down the government and blame them again. Oh, and five magic beans*!

In Paul and Patty's Playhouse, the closest thing to a real cut is the outrageous cut in pension benefits to wounded and disabled veterans. Not a single penny is cut from pensions of civil servants, or Congress or congressional staffers anywhere, but it was decided that the pensions promised to our veterans was a cash cow that could be milked to free up funds for other, more worthy projects, no doubt. Yeah, right!

But, unlike the last bit of brinksmanship, which focused on Obamacare, Republicans could have left Obamacare out of the discussion altogether and simly focused on spending. This was an opportunity to once again acquaint the public with the deceitfulness of baseline budgeting. Nancy Pelosi (D-Botox) made the remark "There's nothing left to cut". This delusional fantasy could be contrasted against any number of thousands of wasteful expenditures made by the government every day. (Dr. John over at Flopping Aces listed a few)

The only way to reduce the debt and the deficit is to stop spending more than you take in and make some real cuts. Obama likes to say that he cut the deficit in half, but he only talks about cuts in the rate of increase. The budget grows more ever year, trillions more than George W. Bush spent (and he spent too much!) It's not like there's no waste, or fraud or inefficiency in federal spending that couldn't be cut. Candidate Obama assured us that there was, in 2008, and promised to go through the budget line by line to get rid of it. If only we had elected that guy!

We currently borrow from the Chinese, something like forty cents on the dollar of everything we spend. A simple budget freeze would mean that we at least don't spend more money than we did the year before. Given inflation, this might mean a three percent decrease in real spending power. Who among us, if faced with a budget shortfall could not reduce our own personal or family budget three percent? Which real conservative could not explain this in understandable terms to anyone who would listen?

Others have suggested the "Penny Plan": Cut one penny off every dollar of public spending.
The 1 percent cut would last two years, followed by a cap on total annual spending — equal to roughly 19 percent of GDP. Supporters say it also will cut spending over roughly 10 years by about $5.8 trillion, based on currently projected levels.

In a few weeks, there will come another vote on the debt ceiling, which the Republicans have pretty much indicated that they will cave to the big spending Democrats, so as to avoid (the blame for) another nasty government shut down. They may even believe that this is a good tactical move, to position themselves for wins in 2014 without having to explain to the MSM why they are letting little girls die without cancer treatments just to give their fat cat, one percent buddies another tax break.

But, if they won't stand upon principle now, but are willing to allow the country to slip deeper and deeper in debt for the next two years, while doing nothing about it but robbing disabled veterans, why should we believe that electing them in 2014 will do anything but make the Republican party the party of domestic appeasement yet again?

There were 12 Republicans who voted to end the discussion, including Lamar Alexander-TN, Jeff Flake -AZ, and Roy Blunt -MO. These nine voted for the final bill:

Ron Johnson - WI, Orin Hatch - UT, Saxby Chamblis - GA, John McCain - AZ, Susan Collins - MA, John Hoeven - ND, Johnny Isakson - GA, Lisa Murkowski - AL,
and Rob Portman - OH

If any of these turkeys are your senator, see what you can do to get them primaried out. Grill your candidates about what they propose to do about reducing federal spending. Don't accept platitudes or generalities. If they have a record, see how they have voted on such things in the past.

Throw John McCain a retirement party. Make it a big one!

Be prepared to give of your time, your talent and your treasure to preserve our great Republic. God save the United States.

*We should be so lucky to have negotiators who could get magic beans in return for their concessions!

Re-Branding Obamacare

How the mighty (in their own minds) have fallen! The signature accomplishment of Obama's tenure was to enact some form of universal healthcare, the "Holy Grail" of Democrats and progressives for the last century. Originally dubbed "Obamacare" in derision, Obama came to embrace the name: "Because I do care", and, after all, it is all about him! Now, Obama wants to "re-brand" the (Un)Affordable Healthcare Act, as if giving it a new name somehow would change any of its odious attributes. I'm thinking he should take a page from the "Geico gecko" campaign, although, I'm not sure that the "Obamacare Weasel" has quite the same cachet. Next time you see roadkill, for example, just think of it as a "random alternative to life". Hey! That's pretty good! Maybe Obama could re-brand "Random Alternative to Life Panels" in Obamacare?

So, in Obama's mind, the way to fix a bad law, that caused millions more to lose their affordable insurance than to gain it, is with more words, by re-branding it, and by delaying it for a year? That presents several problems:

A) if all these plans Obama would allow people to keep are, as the liberals keep telling us, "faux" insurance, substandard and inadequate policies, how is it doing anyone a kindness to keep these people in them another year?

B) if the law, as enacted, will cause millions of people to lose their healthcare plans and millions upon millions more to see their costs doubling and tripling over what they have now, how is merely delaying a bad plan for a year any more than just a band-aid upon a life threatening condition? Why not go for a cure, instead?

C) The Big "C", Obama has no Constitutional right or authority to randomly rewrite portions of the law all by himself. Obama assumes for himself the powers of the worst kind of banana republic, tinhorn dictator when he attempts to do so. All of the liberals who bleated that conservatives should accede to Obamacare because it's "the law of the land, passed by Congress, signed by the President and affirmed by the Supreme Court", should at least have the shame to admit that every change Obama makes in the law illegally, goes against both the spirit and the letter of the law they claimed to uphold.

But getting back to the re-branding. The Geico gecko tells us us that 'Fifteen minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance'. If the Obamacare Keystone Kops can ever get the website functional, and there's any truth in advertising: "Fifteen hours and triple your premiums can put all your personal information at risk from hackers".

Operators are standing by.

Nervous Democrat Senators Up for Re-election in 2014, Meet With Bamboozler-in-Chief at White House

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Meanwhile...OJ's, er, Obama's hunt for the real liar continues!

Obama invited sixteen nervous Democrats up to the White House on Wednesday, to allay their concerns about Obamacare. More precisely, to allay their fears that Obamacare will cost them their jobs in 2014 if something isn't done. And while some may speculate that Obama was there to encourage them to stay the course, to embrace what is, in his dreams, a popular piece of legislation that has become the cornerstone of his 'legacy', I believe his encouragement took a slightly different form. In fact, I know it did.

You know how people say, "I'd like to be a fly on the wall during that conversation!"? We, at Proof Positive, had an actual fly on the wall. The transcript may not be word for word, as my English to Fly dictionary is a couple of decades out of date. (And you don't want to get me started on how Google Translate mucks it up!) The following is a very close approximation of what was said:
Obama: "Welcome to the White House, fellow Democrats! Point of order, we did not have you pass through the metal detectors on the way into the meeting, but we will be using them on the way out. Michelle has "dibs" on the silverware.

As many of you know, You're getting creamed in the polls. Obamacare is still just slightly more popular than Osama bin Laden, but, out at sea, his site is somewhat more accessible than ours.

I've spoken to Kathleen Sebelius, and she assures me that the healthcare.gov site will be fully operational, right after someone named "Lucifer" takes a gold medal on the "luge".

Now, we all know how the game is played. You've all sold your souls to the Democrat Party. If we tell you to jump, you ask "How high?" But, since you have elections coming up, particularly in a red or purple states, we know that you might have to at least give lip service to the beliefs of your constituents, even when it contradicts the policies you have voted for, sworn to uphold and that you may personally believe in. Here at Casa Blanca, we call that "bamboozling".

It is imperative that we take the House and hold the Senate in order to fully implement my second term agenda, whatever that is! Therefore I am sending you forth as my 'sleepers'. Even though I will know you march in lockstep with my agenda, I want you to go forth and pretend you disagree with me, not just that my agenda is making it hard for you to maintain your deception with your constituents.

I want you to become sixteen "Mavericks" - sixteen brave Democrats who are bold enough to stand against me on Obamacare...not of course, like in 2010 when the vote you cast for it actually mattered, but now, when you are up for reelection, it's 'Sic Semper Tyrannis!', or, something...

All these people being so upset about the lies we told them and millions of people losing their health coverage is just the sort of crisis our brother Rahm told us not to let go to waste! So, I want each of to come up with a different plan to "fix" Obamacare. Don't try anything organized, because then, people will expect it to work. Besides, the more disorganized you are, the more people will think, "Well, they're just being Democrats!"

A couple of you can call for some kind of a delay...hopefully long enough to get you past your next election, but if not, at least you can say you were "doing something'! Mary, stick with your "Let's make the promise good" legislation. The promise had nothing to do with the actual legislation and you'd practically have to repeal the whole ACA in order to make it work, so it's not going to go anywhere, but it sure sounds good!

The rest of you guys come up with meaningless reforms that haven't a snowball's chance in Hell of getting passed, and you'll be able to make a pretty convincing campaign mailer out of it. By making all the right noises, you'll be able to convince the folks back home that your...your... What's that thing called again, Joe?

Joe Biden: "Heart"

Obama: That's right! That your "heart" was in the right place! Just remember that it's not really lying unless they catch you, and sometimes even then you can spin your way out of it. Any questions? Comments??

Senators: "We love you Barry!"

Obama: "Of course you do. Franken, put the gravy boat back!"

At this point, the fly found some slightly rotten arugula in the White House pantry that had more collective appeal than sixteen Democat Senators, so the rest of the meeting is lost to history.

Senator Mary Landrieu, (D-LA), this week introduced a bill called the "Keeping the Affordable Care Act Promise Act." Ms. Landrieu had this to say about her proposed piece of legislation:
"When we passed the Affordable Care Act, we did so with the intention that if you liked your health plan, you could keep it. A promise was made and this legislation will ensure that this promise is kept."

Mary, Mary, Mary! Did you even read the freaking bill before you voted on it? No. So how did you have any idea what the intention of the law was? If you had read it and didn't understand all the big words, perhaps someone on your staff could have helped you with it. You may have bought the same big lie from Obama that your constituents did, about how "If you liked your plan or your doctor, you could keep them", but the language of the bill, incidentally, that part which you were responsible for understanding before you voted, clearly indicated that millions of people would lose their current health insurance, even if they "liked" it.

Our republic runs best on the balance and separation of powers. Blindly signing a bill whose consequences you did not understand, should disqualify you from any future elective office. Period.*

A couple of Senators are suggesting delays, either until the website is fixed or a year, like the small business mandate. Don't look for any organized opposition. The Dems have put themselves between a rock and a hard place. By shutting down the government rather than delaying or reforming the ACA, it makes it that much harder for them to admit the Republicans were right and then delay the very thing they fought tooth and nail to preserve.

Here's the thing to remember if your Democrat Senator or Representative starts posturing against Obamacare between now and the 201 election: Ask them two questions: "Did you vote for it?" and "Did you read the bill before you voted for it?" If the answers are "Yes" and "No" respectively, then you should believe everything they say, as much as "If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it. Period."

*Did you understand what I meant when I ended my argument with "Period."? That's how the American people understood Obama when he lied to their face.
