ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A married pair of top officials in a Maryland county is accused of tampering with evidence after FBI agents said they recorded the husband telling his wife to flush a $100,000 check from a real estate developer down the toilet and to stuff almost $80,000 in cash in her underwear.Rumor says these are Democrats, though you cannot find any mention of party affiliation in the linked story. That in itself is usually a pretty good sign! H/T Conservative Scalawag Cross posted at LCR.

Anderson Cooper Skewers Rep. E.B. Johnson Over Scholarship Scandal
Not a bad piece of reporting! Cooper doesn't let this woman off the hook with some generic "I'm sorry". And her simply repaying the money does not provide remedy to those worthy recipients denied opportunity to scholarships that might have changed their lives.
Seems like whoever promised to "drain the swamp" in Congress should have this woman in their sights!

Bell City Manager Received $1.5 Million/Year
Our own LCR did a yeoman's job on helping to publish the outrageous compensation given to politicians in the small California city of Bell, with a median income of $29K/ year, with the city manager apparently paid a $787,000 annual salary. It gets worse.
One and a half million dollars and yet he took off twenty weeks of vacation and sick time? Nice work if you can get it, I guess!

Former Bell City Manager Robert Rizzo, whose $787,000 salary prompted widespread outrage, received an unusually large package of benefits that increased his annual compensation to more than $1.5 million, according to city records reviewed by The Times.
Rizzo's benefits package -- which covers time off as well as retirement, medical and other types of insurance -- shows he was paid for time off that amounted to more than 20 weeks per year.
One and a half million dollars and yet he took off twenty weeks of vacation and sick time? Nice work if you can get it, I guess!
The records say Rizzo was to receive $386,786 in paid vacation and sick benefits this year on top of his base salary. Casso said city officials were still trying to understand the compensation agreement. But the documents appear to show Rizzo was being paid for 107 vacation days and 36 sick days a year. The documents show the city paid $48,996 annually into Rizzo’s deferred compensation plans.
Bell also paid $20,496 into Rizzo’s 457 plan, which is similar to a 401(k) for government employees. According to Rizzo’s contract, the city was to pay the full amount of his 457 plan in the first 10 days of the year, meaning he could benefit from an entire year of interest or investment gains.

"Catholics for Kerry" Founder Pleads Guilty: Internet Pimp
His attorneys tried to suppress a search warrant of his home and tried to get his indictment dismissed on a technicality. But in the end, former state director Robert E. McFadden admitted yesterday to pimping a 17-year-old prostitute on the Internet.
McFadden, the former director of Gov. Ted Strickland's Faith-Based and Community Initiative, pleaded guilty to two felony counts after police said he put nude photographs of the girl on a Web site to promote prostitution.
McFadden, 46, of xxxx Xxxxxx xx in Dublin, pleaded guilty to two counts of compelling prostitution using his computer between September and October last year. Five other counts of pandering obscenity and promoting prostitution were dismissed.
Mr. McFadden, in addition to being Gov. Ted Strickland's (D-OH) Faith-Based and Community Initiative director, was founder of "Catholics for Kerry" (D-MA) in 2004 and "head of the Catholic outreach of the Clinton campaign (D-NY) last year."
Gee! I hope I didn't "scoop" anyone who was planning on writing a convoluted, yet meaningless headline about this guy! After all, we all know that sleazeball tactics, crime and corruption are solely caused by one party in this country! /sarcasm
The Democrats in Ohio have it right!
(D-OH!)
Heh.

Chris Dodd (D): Real Estate Scandals at Home and Abroad
Which convicted inside trader helped little Chrissy Dodd buy his vacation home?
Like his fearless leader, Barack Obama, Chris Dodd had a little help from his friends when it came to buying an expensive ten acre island property on Inishnee in Ireland. From the Times Online:
A holiday home in Connemara is at the centre of a growing row in America involving a prominent Democrat politician, a convicted insider trader and the former president Bill Clinton.
The purchase of the home by Senator Christopher Dodd is being examined by the US Senate ethics committee after allegations that Edward Downe Jr, a businessman convicted of insider trading, acted as a “middle man” in the deal
Here's the deal: Dodd buys a one third "share" in the house Downe buys two thirds of it. Eight years later, after property values have doubled*, Downe sells his "share" to Dodd for an amount less than 20% more than he paid for it. Dodd gets a sweetheart deal from Downe, after (coincidentally I'm sure) an effort by Dodd obtain a pardon from President Bill Clinton for...wait for it!...Edward Downe Jr, a businessman convicted of insider trading!
Like the half million dollar property that Tony Rezko and spouse that was a virtual gift to Barack and Michelle Obama, Edward Downe Jr sold about a quarter million dollars worth of real estate to Chris Dodd for half of what it was worth because.....?
The deal between Kessinger and Dodd has attracted attention in America because of its similarity to another property transaction involving the pair that has also come under scrutiny. In 1986, they purchased a condominium in Washington for $159,800. A little over three years later, Downe transferred his share of the property to Dodd, who later sold it for $310,000.
Dodd is already under investigation for receiving what a former mortgage broker claims was preferential treatment from Countrywide Financial, one of the largest sub-prime lenders in the US, on two re-mortgage deals in 2003. Dodd denies that he received “special treatment”.
Last week The Wall Street Journal questioned why Kessinger handed over his share of the Connemara property “for a song” and called on Dodd to reveal what role Downe might have played as a “middle man”.
Last week? And the MSM covered this...when??
Ah, Democrats and real estate! Pure as the driven snow on the streets of Chicago!
*WSJ said "quadrupled".

Bill Richardson Withdraws Over Corruption Charges
The happy couple just last month!
Bill Richardson is withdrawing his nomination to be commerce secretary, FOX News confirmed Sunday.
Richardson, who will remain governor of New Mexico, is facing a federal grand jury investigation into whether he exchanged government contracts for contributions to three Richardson political committees.
Richardson denies any wrongdoing but the investigation won't be finished before he has to go to a Senate confirmation hearing.
Happy New Year to you, too, Bill! The dust hasn't yet settled on the election and the scandals just keep on coming. (I believe this one was announced around Christmas Day, so that as few people as possible were even aware of it!) A Washington Post report on the grand jury indictment is here.
Obama has accepted his withdrawal. Yeah. Right! Like he would do anything else! Way to pick 'em, Barack! Your continuing good judgment is on an unbroken streak!
I suppose I should add, for the benefit of the pickers of nits around here, that it's not technically "glee", more of a gereral "schadenfreude"! Heh.

Update: Remember that 63 question questionnaire: Do you or any member of your immediate family own a gun?
Presuming Bill Richardson took that questionnaire too, I wonder how that's working out for Barack? Heh.
