How Can We Get LESS Christ in Christmas? Methodists: Hold My Beer!

In case you haven't seen it, a Methodist church in southern California (Rev. Karen Clark Ristine, pastor) decided they needed to make Christmas more politically relevant this year.

Every year, around this time, the Left begins to take some small interest in the Christmas story. However, they insist on recasting Mary and Joseph as "homeless", or more recently as "illegal immigrants". Balderdash! (Note: If Joe Biden is listening, you can use that in your campaign!) On Twitter, (don't get me started) one budding Scriptural scholar wannabee said that the "real villain" of this piece wasn't King Herod, but rather the greedy innkeeper, who could not find a room for a very pregnant woman.

Let's inject just the tiniest bit of logic here. (The tiniest bit being all that some on the Left are able to absorb) But if you look at the most reliable record of the time, we see this

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

Did you catch that? There went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
Tax.
All.
The.
World.

Scholars are of a conflicting mind whether or not this makes Augustus the first liberal Democrat or not. But in typical bureaucratic fashion, and not willing for any income to slip through the cracks, compelled everyone in the known world to return to the city of their birth. Not "Everyone whose last name begins with 'Aleph' through 'Mem' show up on Thursday, and everyone 'Nun' through 'Tau' the week after. No. It was everybody show up, or face the displeasure of the Roman Empire.

Why else would a man take his nine month pregnant wife on a journey of 70 -90 miles, on foot and donkey, to show up at such and such a time? Even our relatively benign IRS would have issued him an extension if he asked. But, no. Rome must be obeyed.

The most direct route from Nazareth to Bethlehem was probably too rough, with roving bands of brigands, and just how fast do you think Joseph could travel, leading a donkey with his very pregnant wife on it? And you ladies can back me up on this one, but bouncing around on a donkey's back, with a baby kicking at your greatly diminished bladder, about how many times a day do you think they had to stop just for bathroom breaks? I'm thinking a week and a half minimum for the journey!

Imagine if you would, that the government decreed the census would be done differently this year. Everyone who has ever been born there, in the last hundred years, return to the city of your birth, and wait in line until the government gets around to counting you. If everyone born in New York City, or Houston, or New Orleans for the last hundred years showed up in town...how long do you think it would take until the hotels and motels were all full? Not because inn keepers are evil, but the sheer magnitude of bureaucratic incompetence and greed that ordained it would overwhelm almost any city on the planet. Then imagine them all lined up on the steps of city hall, because it was no skin off Caesar Augustus' nose how long you had to travel, or stand in line, because you were a cash cow to be milked for taxes.

Homeless? Joseph was a carpenter in Nazareth. He provided for his family. After the baby was born, some of the census crowd cleared back and the housing shortage was alleviated. Matthew 2: 9-11

"...The star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him." (emphasis mine)

How about the "illegal immigrant" moniker? Anything to that? The lefties are hanging their collective hats on this passage, in Matthew 2: 12 -14

"(The Wise men)... being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt..."

So, because Joseph traveled to Egypt, undocumented, as it were, then there must be no difference between them and undocumented illegal aliens who cross the border into the US! Nothing at all indicates that there was anything illegal in that, although I am willing to concede that any illegal alien who can produce undeniable evidence that the angel of the Lord commanded them to come here, I am perfectly willing to make the exception!

The story of the Nativity of Christ is not about Donald Trump. Or Barack Obama who maintained if not built the "cages". It's not even about the failure of the legislature to pass new legislation to try to fix the problems on the border. It's about the entrance of the Christ into the world, who would save His people from their sin. When churches lose sight of that, they do idiotic things like the one pictured above.

Woodrow Wilson re-segregated the federal government, wrote that the races were unequal, and threw a black civil rights leader out of the Oval Office. If we want to expand it to vice presidents, Aaron Burr straight-up murdered the old Treasury Secretary by shooting him in the chest.

Worse than Lyndon Johnson telling America that that we were winning the Vietnam War when we weren’t? That one proved a lot more consequential in the lives of Americans.

How much better or worse is the effort to strongarm the Ukrainian government than Jimmy Carter’s irritated pledge, “if I get back in, I’m going to f*** the Jews”?

The Return of Ten Buck Friday

Back in halcyon years of old (2010), some conservative bloggers put forth a plan where, a poll would be taken of conservative candidates around the country and the winner would be the recipient of a ten dollar contribution to their campaign from each of the participants. Forgive me for not taking a poll, but there are only nine Fridays between now and the midterm elections. Our country has not had a budget passed in the Senate since 2009, forcing a series of continuing resolutions which keep the nation at the brink of a shut down and masks the obscene amounts of money that the President and Congress want to spend. Hundreds of bills passed in the House are not even brought up for a vote in Harry Reid's Senate.

Focusing on the Senate races (Republicans need just six seats to oust the bottleneck, hyper partisan Harry Reid as majority leader), is it worth ten bucks a week (two lattes?) to eliminate Reid's control and give the Senate responsible leadership again?

With that in mind, this week we look to the open Senate seat in GA. Can you contribute just $10 to Senate candidate David Perdue?

Radicals For Rules?

What do you think of when you hear the word "radical"? Sixties radicals like Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground robbing banks, setting bombs and blowing themselves up? How about the Tea Party? Do you think Tea Partiers warrant the same designation as the Weather Underground? Some people think so. Consider, for example, just recently, an anchor at CNN referred to "Tea Party radicals".

To dimmer Left wing trolls, radical is just another pejorative, like "fascist". They don't necessarily know what the words mean, but they sound like insults when they are on the receiving end of them, so the ever "Green" Left recycles the epithets for the Right.

But, could there be an element of truth there, where both parties are correct? The key is just how you look at the word "radical". The word radical has to do with "getting to the root" of things. For those of us who still remember long division, that symbol for finding a square root, is coincidentally called the "radical sign". But what does it mean when it comes to politics? The sixties radical was typically anti-government, anti-capitalist, and anti-war, believing that the establishment was corrupt and needed to be destroyed...right down to the roots. Only then could things be rebuilt from the ground up. Perhaps, in a more egalitarian fashion?

Does that sound familiar to you? Can you think of any movement from the past few years that might apply to? How about "Occupy Wall St" and its many offspring? They were going to rebuild society, one squalid camp at a time! The solution to the disparity of income was for the poor to "eat the rich". If you wanted to live on land that didn't belong to you, well, possession is 9/10ths of the law! If there were rapes or sexual assaults, the neoanarchists of "Occupy" didn't want to involve established authority, so they formed loose knit bands of guards and vigilantes to try to keep order in the new World Order. They weren't very good at curbing theft, either, as people were surprised (stop laughing!) to find their laptops and smart phones mysteriously disappearing in the midst of such a grand egalitarian company of people! They planned for communal meals, sharing with everyone of the so called 99%. Well, everyone except the ordinary bums and self admitted freeloaders who started showing up for the free lunches. Then, somehow, the splendid egalitarianists (dare I say, "communists"?) awakened to the harsh light of reality and folded their tents. If you saw the photos of any of those camps when they finally "Moved On", though, you can see that they did a pretty darn good job of destroying those parks right down to the roots!
Say what you will about those guys, but no one could poop on a cop car like they could!

However, there is another sense to the word radical. Yes, it can be applied to those who want to destroy everything down to the root in order to build something else in its place, but it can also carry with it the sense of foundational beliefs, getting down to basics as it were, getting down to the roots of a Constitutional government. Constitutional 'radicals' do not want to tear down or abandon the rule of law, as does the anarchist, but seek to conform the law to its founding document. To repair and rebuild the foundation, as it were, so that the structure will continue to stand for generations yet unborn.

The Constitution is the root and foundation of our Constitutional government. The peaceful, generally law abiding people of the Tea Party want to see the Constitution re-established as the foundation and cornerstone of our Republic. Returning the country to its Constitutional roots is considered radical by some.

The primary differences are in the means that each group will use to achieve the end they hope to achieve. The literal bomb throwers and anarchistic Molotov cocktail makers of the sixties have moved into government and academia. Not surprisingly, they are big fans of the ends justifying the means. The law abiding 'radicals' of the Tea Party, on the other hand, constrain themselves to lawful means. It may put them for a time at a disadvantage, but by no means counts them out.

Calling a conservative a 'radical' is not necessarily an insult. Calling a progressive a 'radical' is definitely not a compliment.

The Least Serious President in the History of the Republic™ Gets Spanked on Syrian Foreign Policy

Many characters in contemporary literature and pop culture have a catch phrase. "I'll be back", intoned the Terminator. "Dy-no-mite", quipped Jimmie Walker. "Whatchu talkin' about Willis?" from the late, 'cute as a bug' Gary Coleman. What was missing from Barack Obama's clear as mud dissertation on American foreign policy a couple of nights ago, was his catch phrase, "Let me be clear".

He came close several times. He talked about making "clear to the world that we will not tolerate their use" and that the "targeted strike to achieve a clear objective". He also wanted to make it clear, despite his Secretary of States pronouncements a few days earlier, that "The United States military doesn’t do pinpricks." This is clearly in response to John Kerry telling us that our military response would be "incredibly small". Well, that's perfectly clear! Incredibly small, yet larger than a pin prick. Got it! Moving right along...

Obama made the very emotional case about a murderous tyrant.

...Assad’s government gassed to death over a thousand people, including hundreds of children. The images from this massacre are sickening: Men, women, children lying in rows, killed by poison gas. Others foaming at the mouth, gasping for breath. A father clutching his dead children, imploring them to get up and walk. On that terrible night, the world saw in gruesome detail the terrible nature of chemical weapons, and why the overwhelming majority of humanity has declared them off-limits — a crime against humanity, and a violation of the laws of war."

Gosh. Who wouldn't be moved by that??

...When dictators commit atrocities, they depend upon the world to look the other way until those horrifying pictures fade from memory. But these things happened. The facts cannot be denied. The question now is what the United States of America, and the international community, is prepared to do about it. Because what happened to those people — to those children — is not only a violation of international law, it’s also a danger to our security. Let me explain why. If we fail to act, the Assad regime will see no reason to stop using chemical weapons.

Got that? Assad is a dictator committing atrocities, killing children with poison gas, committing crimes against humanity we will not tolerate, so, we must not fail to act.


Enter Vladimir Putin, who takes an offhand remark by Sec State Kerry, and comes riding over the hill, like the cavalry in a John Wayne western, to save Obama from his own careless talk. Yesterday's truth: Assad is evil, kills children and must die. Today's truth: We can negotiate with him, with our friend Putin, even if that keeps a dictator committing atrocities, killing children with poison gas, committing crimes against humanity, in power.

Obama "acted stupidly" by declaring a red line in Syria that he either had not thought through the consequences or was not prepared to back up, or both. Historically, the words and warnings of the Leader of the Free World carry a lot of weight. But then, historically, American presidents didn't make threats they were not prepared to back up.

And now, Vladimir Putin has rescued the impotent Obama from his toothless threats, and the only cost was a further erosion of American prestige in the world, and a guaranteed safe haven for a murderous tyrant who commits atrocities by gassing children to death.


Any way we can nominate this guy for a second Peace Prize?

Strong Benhazi Ad Spiked by Romney, Liberal Sheep Still Bleat: "Partisan!"

One of the spurious charges that liberal and Democrats are offering up, in lieu of actual facts, is the notion that somehow the situation at Benghazi is just a partisan, political witch hunt. A "Gotcha" attempt by Republicans to smear Democrats.
Let's look at that, shall we?

First we have the evidence of the dog that didn't bark, as illustrated in the ad above. Romney had the opportunity to hold Obama's feet to the fire on Benghazi and decided not to. He said it was because he wanted to focus on the issue of the economy. However, given the vicious attacks from the MSM jumping all over him for his justifiable criticism of the State Department, through the embassy in Cairo, who issued an apology to offended Muslims after the incident in Egypt, the US was not responsible for, and given the tag team approach of the media with Candy Crowley siding erroneously with Obama during the second presidential debate, Romney may have believed it was the better part of valor not to press the issue.

Before the election, low information voters were bleating that Benghazi was nothing more than a political ploy to "get Obama". Now that that election is well behind us, the same liberal sheep are bleating that Benghazi is nothing more than a political ploy to "get Hillary". This, despite the fact, that one of the primary whistleblowers is a Democrat who voted for Hillary in the 2008 primary and Obama twice in the general. (Hopefully in different years!)

On Fox News Sunday this AM, Democrat congressman Adam Smith (absolutely no relation to the Smith of the "invisible hand"), tried to belittle one of the aspects of the Benghazi cover up, the so called "talking points" memo from the CIA. Congressman Smith tried to trivialize it as "just a memo", as if this memo had not undergone twelve revisions scrubbing all mention of Islamic terrorist and al Qaeda, as if the White House had not denied that such edits had taken place, and as if the final result, promulgated by Susan Rice on all five Sunday talk shows, the President at the UN and Hillary, over the flag draped coffins of the dead, had not all mislead the American people with a big lie. A big lie which also flat out contradicted the Libyan president, on national television.

It's more than "just a memo". If this were a Republican administration, Smith might be calling this a "smoking gun". It is evidence of a cover up of the other two scandals of Benghazi, that repeated warning were given and repeated requests for added security were denied at the highest levels of our government. The "inconvenient truth" that seems to elude so many liberals is that criticism of failures in any administration will of necessity be all of the same party, which doesn't mean it is "partisan". Show us the Republicans responsible for the incompetence and malfeasance in Benghazi, and we will criticize them, too!

Which brings us to lame defense #2: The Republicans did it. How many times have you heard this one? The Republicans and the sequester cut back the budget so badly there was no money for security. Except, that isn't true either. The State Department admitted it wasn't budget cuts that caused the breach in security. Indeed, the State Department had millions of dollars for embassy art and charging stations for electric cars...it wasn't a lack of money that doomed Chris Stevens. It was will.

President Unicorn was proclaiming that al Qaeda was beaten. After all, he'd almost personally killed bin Laden, hadn't he? Terrorism against the US was not part of the President's narrative as to why he should be re-elected. Plus, he had made a speech to the Muslim world telling them that with nasty George Bush out of the way, we could be friends! Barry understood Muslims. Barry turned NASA into a Muslim Self Esteem center. He'd lived in Indonesia. The Muslim world would be singing Kum-bay-ah with us in no time. And we certainly wouldn't want to offend our Libyan hosts by sending a military presence to our embassy. That would imply that we didn't think our host country could provide proper security! That would be insulting! (Despite the fact that every other Western nation and NGO had gotten out of Dodge because of increasing terror attacks.)

No, the fact that several high ranking officials of one administration were involved in a cover up of incompetence or malfeasance (or both) is not "partisan". Was Watergate "partisan" because only Republicans were involved? How many Democrats were prosecuted??

There were any number of breaches of common sense and professionalism leading up to the attack in Benghazi. There are huge holes in the testimony of the whereabouts and actions of the Commander-in-Chief's failure to send any sort of aid or support during the attack. There have been countless lies told about the nature of the attack by the highest levels of this administration.

The families of the dead deserve an answer. The American people deserve answers. Maybe if one of the whistleblowers could 'come out' as gay, the president might rush to a phone to communicate the answers he has been hiding from the American public all these months.

As Bob Schieffer* famously said on his Sunday show, "This is a story that just won't go away."

A Tale of Four Tax Cheats (Updated)

On Nov. 19, 2010, we noted that "one of these four men is going to jail for three years for not paying his taxes."

(The other three are politicians.)


Here's an update: Wesley Snipes has been released from jail, on April 2, 2013. He still remains under home confinement until July 19. The other three men are still politicians.

Welcome to Baja British Columbia!

It gets old...telling people you are from California and either receiving that sad eyed, mournful "Poor baby!" look, or always having to explain that, yes, I am in my right mind, and no, I don't see any hope with liberals running the state. So, I've decided, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Since there are splinter groups calling southern California, "Northern Mexico", I don't see why I can't just rename my part of the state, Baja British Columbia! It has a much nicer ring to it, don't you think?

And since I may be the leading, and only, literary light in Baja British Columbia (pop. 1), I should have a proper title. I'm trying to choose between 'the Sage of Southern BC', or 'the Bard of Baja British Columbia'. I'm leaning towards the latter... I'm wondering if I should get a new passport?

Democrats Run Like Scalded Dogs From "Progress Kentucky"

As well they should! No doubt by now, you've heard about the kerfluffle with a "progressieve"* PAC of Democrats accused of bugging Mitch McConnell's office to eavesdrop on his campaign strategy. They then fronted a tape of McConnell and his aides discussing the dastardly prospect of repeating what Ashley Judd had actually said, should she choose to run against him. Horrors! The worst thing you can do to a liberal is to quote them correctly!

Now the fall back claim is that these clean cut, Democrat chappies just happened to be standing in the hallway outside McConnell's office and just happened to overhear what was being said and just happened to have an iphone with them to record the conversation. Does this remind you at all of the Florida couple who managed to tape both sides of a cell phone conversation with Newt Gingrich who just happened to have a recorder in the car along with their scanner?

Picture that for yourself: two guys trying to stand nonchalantly outside McConnell's office, not having a conversation (because that would have turned up on the tape, right?), apparently loitering in that spot for the duration of McConnell's staff meeting?

I'm not that familiar with the place, but don't you think that during that time someone might have passed them in the hall or called security to check on the guys loitering outside a Senator's office?

Just for comparison, one of McConnell's aides should stand in the hallway with an iphone and see what they can record from outside the office, for comparison. Think back to the last conference call you sat in on, where people were huddled around a microphone in the center of the conference table and you didn't have trouble hearing what everyone had to say.

Funny how the liberals who are always oh, so, concerned about people's privacy, can't seem to grant the same courtesy to their political opponents. (Or your medical records, when it suits them. More on this later.)

Ashley Judd is Not Running for Senate

This is probably not a newsflash for most of you. And the fact that Ashley is nuttier than squirrel poop means the announcement is no great loss to the Republic, although there are probably more than a few Republicans lamenting the lost opportunity to run against her. Still, despite changes brought about by nature, time and possibly a plastic surgeon or two, Ashley was quite the head turner in her day.

As Obama finally makes his way into Israel as president, let us keep in mind the words he uttered in 2008 in order to get the job:

"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided"

...and something about "defensible borders".
