Image and video hosting by TinyPic

See Barack read. Read Barack, read.
Stumble slightly over the word "quadrennial". Heh.

Wizbang and Gateway Pundit both have stories on Obama operatives hacking the Macsmind blog spot because of articles and videos criticizing "The One". Aside from the utterly un-American thuggishness of the attack on freedom of speech, I noticed while reviewing one of the videos that the thugs found so objectionable, that Obama's delivery was quite crisp and quick. Uncharacteristically so.
So I started watching his eye movement as he spoke, how he stumbles slightly over the word "quadrennial" - as he was reading it off the teleprompter! Watch for yourself, not just for the dangerously naive policies, but how he is tied to a teleprompter to achieve the illusion of competence.

Navy Monument Dedicated at Normandy

French jets flyover Navy monument dedication.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A little break from all elections all the time...Lost in the clutter of election coverage, comes some good news from France:

SAINT-MARIE-DU-MONT, France — It’s been more than 64 years since Irving Shapiro was last in Normandy, and he had at least a couple of good reasons for not wanting to go back.

Each of them earned him a Purple Heart on D-Day, June 6, 1944, when, as a sailor aboard LST 492, he made two trips to and from Omaha Beach —Bloody Omaha, as it’s sometimes called — to drop off men and equipment and to pick up the dead and wounded.

Now in a wheelchair, something drew him back to Normandy and to the memories he said he’s tried hard not to think about.

On Saturday, the first official monument to the members of the U.S. Navy who took part in the Normandy invasion was dedicated, unveiled before a crowd of at least 1,000 spectators, including a handful of U.S. and French veterans and the widows of two men who had participated in the invasion.

"I've Got a Bracelet, Too" Obama Ignores Family's Wishes

At Friday night's debate, John McCain told a touching story about a fallen soldier's mother, who gave him a bracelet with her son's name on it and asked McCain that he makes sure her son did not die in vain.
Barack "Me too" Obama (you can scroll down or see it here) said he had a bracelet, too! He wasn't quite sure what the soldier's name was, but after a quick glance at his wrist, Obama used the story of a different soldier to justify his own views on the war.

Turns out there's a big difference in the two stories: In McCain's case, the soldier's mother asked McCain to wear the bracelet. With Obama, the soldier's family asked him NOT to wear the bracelet.

Barack Obama played the "me too" game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.

Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

Real class act, respecting the wishes of the family of one of our fallen heroes!

Radio host Glenn Moberg of the show "Route 51" asked Mr. Jopek, a man who believes in the efforts in Iraq and is not in favor of Obama's positions on the war, what he and his ex-wife think of Obama continually using their son's name on the campaign trail.

Jopek began by saying that his ex-wife was taken aback, even upset, that Obama has made the death of her son a campaign issue. Jopek says his wife gave Obama the bracelet because "she just wanted Mr. Obama to know Ryan's name." Jopek went on to say that "she wasn't looking to turn it into a big media event" and "just wanted it to be something between Barack Obama and herself." Apparently, they were all shocked it became such a big deal.

Mr. Sensitivity! Obama is willing to exploit this man's death for his political ambitions, but refuses to respect the wishes of his family? I think someone once summed it up well:
Barack Obama is Not Ready to Lead.

Biden Gets Four Pinocchios For Lying About McCain's Plan

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why four Pinocchios? Because they don't give five!

Michael Dobbs' Fact Checker examined Biden's claims and declared them to be "fabrications". (That's how polite people call you a liar!)

By most independent calculations, the McCain plan will leave most taxpayers better off in strictly financial terms, at least until 2013. After 2013, the benefits will begin to diminish. By 2018, taxpayers in the top quintile will be slightly worse off, but middle-income taxpayers will either break even or be slightly ahead. According to the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, the McCain proposals will result in a net benefit of $1,241 to the average tax payer in 2009, $895 in 2013, and $386 in 2018.

"It is not fair to pull out just one part of the McCain proposal," said Eric Toder, a TPC analyst. "It is a package. They are giving back more than they are taking away."

...In this particular case, Joe Biden has looked at only the negative side of the balance sheet--and ignored the positive. It is simply not true that the McCain health plan represents the largest "tax increase" in American history.

Who Won Last Night's Debate?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Short Version: McCain, but read the details.

Partisans will certainly disagree. Rabid partisans will disagree rabidly, but the edge went to John McCain last night. Here's why and who thinks so:

First, we'll give the devil his due. Slate magazine, decidedly left of center, calls the debate "a tie" : Tie Goes to Obama: Neither candidate won a clear victory.. A tie, huh? Let's see how they come to that!

Obama and McCain looked like equals onstage. McCain turned in a marginally stronger performance, but Obama looked strong enough, and in a tough year for Republicans with Obama leading in the polls, that's a victory for the Democrat.

So, according to Slate, McCain's debate performance was stronger, but when you're a Democrat, just coming in second is a victory? Oooooookay!

Obama did what he needed to do to convince people he could be commander in chief—his challenge for the night.

That is, shall we say, no pun intended...debatable! In foreign policy and all matters military, young Obama looked plainly out of his depth.

Who else called this one? Newsweek, an also slightly left of center publication called it for...McCain! McCain Won. But Will it Matter? The article starts off:

If tonight's presidential face-off between Barack Obama and John McCain were held before, say, the Princeton University Debating Society, it might have been scored a tie.

Whoa! Slate says McCain was stronger, but it was a tie, this guy says McCain won, but it was kind of a tie! Talk about giving your Democratic also ran benefit of the doubt!

But alas: presidential debates aren't scored scientifically. Committed partisans may keep track of everything their guy got right. But undecided swing voters--the ones who will decide the election--don't tally up points. Instead, they link what happens on stage--in a broad, impressionistic sense--to the narratives they'd already heard about the candidates. Which means it's up to the two men performing at the podiums to reinforce the positive, preexisting story lines and disprove the negative ones.

Tonight, John McCain was the more effective performer.

There are two reasons why. The first is that he constantly--obsessively, really--spiked his responses with small but pointed jabs at Obama that unfailingly related to subjects he (McCain) wanted to talk about, whatever the original topic of discussion. This tactic had a dual effect. First, Obama couldn't help but take the bait; he must've said "that's not true," "let me correct the record" or "I just have to respond" a dozen times over the course of the evening. Second, Obama's defensiveness immediately shifted the conversation to McCain's home turf--where it remained, often for minutes at a time.

This Presidential race is a referendum on Barack Obama: Is he worth the risk? Does he have the Right Stuff? Clearly, he has to do more than show up and not make terribly stupid blunders. He had to look Presidential. Unfortunately, for the young machine politician from Chicago, that takes more than creating your own Presidential seal, standing in front of 10 Downing Street as if it were a Hollywood set, it requires gravitas, to borrow a phrase from elections past. Obama doesn't quite make the cut!

Politico's Ben Smith:
The mild consensus in the press file was that McCain won, if not in particularly dramatic fashion. The two insta-polls out -- from CBS and CNN -- found the opposite: That Obama won by a wide margin. CBS had it 39% to 25% for Obama, CNN 51% to 38%. Maybe the difference was expectations.
Or, polls can be spammed. Ask Ron Paul!

Without knowing the sampling involved, I'll wait for a more reliable poll. What Obama needed to do was allay the fears that he could handle the job. His whiny Al Gore impersonation of muttering softly while McCain was speaking didn't endear him to anyone as an adult, much less Leader of the Free World!

Advantage: McCain

Update: Here's a Drudge poll that shows McCain the clear winner 68% to 30%!
Hat tip pparets

Also, I was originally going to cite Mark Hemingway from NRO: Why McCain Won
As for the foreign policy section, it was just no contest. Obama was on the defensive, and frequently sounded naive. McCain pounded him to dust on the preconditions exchange, and all Obama could do was dissemble. The fact that Obama didn't respond at the end to McCain questioning his experience or judgment was especially telling.

Bailout Money to go to ACORN?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

20% of the bailout money to go to ACORN?

KJ Lopez quoting Lindsay Graham:

“And this deal that's on the table now is not a very good deal. Twenty percent of the money that should go to retire debt that will be created to solve this problem winds up in a housing organization called ACORN that is an absolute ill-run enterprise, and I can't believe we would take money away from debt retirement to put it in a housing program that doesn't work.”

Ten thousand dollars worth of damage was done by one or more "Code Pink types" in Dallas to Army reservist Viktor Whitlow.

DALLAS -- Dallas police are looking into a shocking crime against an Iraq War vet that took place on a college campus. Overnight Tuesday, someone took vandalized 23-year-old Army veteran Viktor Whitlow's vehicle while it was parked at Dallas Baptist University. Ironically, the mascot at DBU is the Patriot.
The vandals used a box cutter to destroy the inside of his jeep, they slashed five tires and smashed through the windshield. Perhaps the most shocking detail to the vandalism was the message spray painted on his hood.

The message was "Soldiers are murderers". It's hard to describe just how vicious and mindless the attack was. Please, click over to the video and see for yourself. This is sickening! The scum who did this probably pride themselves on freedom to choose...unless you choose something less than politically correct!

PETA Busts Ben And Jerry For Not Using Human Breast Milk

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Udderly logical thinking from the People Who Brought You Liberalism!

Keeping you abreast of the news: back in June 2006, Rob reported on a human breast milk bar in Canada, Spartacus honored us with a report on a restaurant serving human breast milk, now PETA wants to go whole hog (as it were!).

VERMONT -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk,

From PETA's letter:
Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup.

Hear that ladies? If cows are "forcefully impregnated every nine months" and "forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally", how does PETA propose that you to take up the slack? I'm not sure how much cow's milk Ben and Jerry's uses in a year, but I'm sure it's a lot!

Does it strike you odd as it does me, that the good liberals at PETA are seeking to exploit the women of the world? That after decades of struggle not to be treated as cattle, the good people of PETA want to treat them as cows?

Feminists have long advocated that women reach their full potential and work out side the home and express themselves! Well, technically, the barn is outside the home! And you ladies are going to have to express a lot to keep up with demand!

Could put a whole new meaning to the phrase: Working Girl!

The Medal of Honor

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Staff Sergeant Walter D. Ehlers

Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty on 9-10 June 1944, near Goville, France. S/Sgt. Ehlers, always acting as the spearhead of the attack, repeatedly led his men against heavily defended enemy strong points exposing himself to deadly hostile fire whenever the situation required heroic and courageous leadership. Without waiting for an order, S/Sgt. Ehlers, far ahead of his men, led his squad against a strongly defended enemy strong point, personally killing 4 of an enemy patrol who attacked him en route. Then crawling forward under withering machinegun fire, he pounced upon the guncrew and put it out of action. Turning his attention to 2 mortars protected by the crossfire of 2 machineguns, S/Sgt. Ehlers led his men through this hail of bullets to kill or put to flight the enemy of the mortar section, killing 3 men himself. After mopping up the mortar positions, he again advanced on a machinegun, his progress effectively covered by his squad. When he was almost on top of the gun he leaped to his feet and, although greatly outnumbered, he knocked out the position single-handed. The next day, having advanced deep into enemy territory, the platoon of which S/Sgt. Ehlers was a member, finding itself in an untenable position as the enemy brought increased mortar, machinegun, and small arms fire to bear on it, was ordered to withdraw. S/Sgt. Ehlers, after his squad had covered the withdrawal of the remainder of the platoon, stood up and by continuous fire at the semicircle of enemy placements, diverted the bulk of the heavy hostile fire on himself, thus permitting the members of his own squad to withdraw. At this point, though wounded himself, he carried his wounded automatic rifleman to safety and then returned fearlessly over the shell-swept field to retrieve the automatic rifle which he was unable to carry previously. After having his wound treated, he refused to be evacuated, and returned to lead his squad. The intrepid leadership, indomitable courage, and fearless aggressiveness displayed by S/Sgt. Ehlers in the face of overwhelming enemy forces serve as an inspiration to others.

Sgt. Ehlers: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Democrats Supress Pro McCain Voters in Ohio

Stop the ACLU answered a very important question for me today:

Why haven't I received my absentee ballot yet?

The request for the absentee ballot was one sent out by the John McCain campaign, and so should be readily identifiable by the rabidly partisan Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner , who apparently would like Republican absentee ballots not to get counted! Or as the Democrats like to say:

Conservatives: One man, less than one vote!

Two Hamilton County voters have sued, accusing her of “the disenfranchisement of thousands of voters.”

The John McCain campaign sent out more than 1 million applications for absentee ballots to Republicans. Each had a line at the top next to a box: “I am a qualified elector.”

Brunner sent a memo telling county election officials to reject those applications for absentee ballots if the box was not checked. “Failure to check the box leaves both the applicant and the board of elections without verification that the applicant is a ‘qualified elector’,” she wrote.

But that’s contrary to state law and Brunner doesn’t have the authority, according to the lawsuit and an opinion from Hamilton County’s Republican Prosecutor Joe Deters.

Ohio law allows voters to request an absentee ballot on the back of a grocery sack if they want to, as long as they include their name, address, date of birth, signature and either a driver’s license number, last four Social Security numbers or a valid picture I.D.

Democrats, dirty tricks and disenfranchisement...synonymous in modern politics.

Berkeley tree huggers to be fined for illegal activities.

LGF points to the story at SF Gate:

Berkeley's infamous tree-sitters have been hit with a rude surprise since they came down to earth: Judges are socking them with thousands of dollars in fines and legal fees. Ironically, much of the money - which could total more than $10,000 per sitter - is going straight to the University of California, the very institution the tree-sitters were protesting as they tried to save a grove of trees outside Memorial Stadium.

Sounds to me they're getting off cheap when you consider the following:

...UC Berkeley estimates it spent more than $800,000 on police and other security measures during the 22 months sitters were up in the trees. The university spent $40,000 alone on the scaffolding that went up around the final tree during the last day of the protest this month.

Now, the school wants its pound of flesh. So far, most of the 15 to 20 protesters arrested in the past year have been hit with fines of about $100 for trespassing and little or no jail time.

Once they were back on the street, however, the university hauled them back into court on contempt charges for violating an order issued in October by Judge Richard Keller of Alameda County Superior Court that banned people from sitting in the trees or doing anything to help the protesters already up in the branches.

And finally, a little bit of irrefutable logic in the case:

Lawyers on both sides said the tree-sitters' chances of beating the contempt charges are slim.

As Cunningham noted, "You were either up in the trees or not. What's to argue?"

"Tailgunner Joe" Biden Forced Down in Helicopter - Harrowing Details to Follow

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The One Man Gaffe Machine picked a perfect running mate!

Warner Todd Huston has the details:

Back on September 10 in a visit to Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden seemed to hint that al Qaeda forced down a helicopter he was traveling in when he was visiting Afghanistan in February of 2008. He made the claim again on September 22 in a campaign stop at the National Guard Association. The truth, however, is not exactly what Biden may be trying to allege.

"The superhighway of terror between Pakistan and Afghanistan where my helicopter was forced down...John McCain wants to know where Bin Ladin and the gates of Hell are? I can tell him where. That's where Al Quaida is. That's where Bin Ladin is. It's not in the country of Iraq."

Wow. Forced down was it? Biden says this as if it were some attack that forced his helicopter down, doesn't he? However, immediately after that September 10 campaign stop, it came out pretty quickly that Biden's helicopter was not forced down by enemy weapons fire. No, it was a snow storm in the mountains that "forced" the aircraft down and then only because the pilot thought the better decision would be to err on the side of safety. He had generals and Senators in his craft, after all. You can imagine how nervous the pilot was in that case.

Now, let's face the truth here. Biden would not be using the words "forced down" without explaining that it was weather that forced him down unless he meant to convey that he was forced down in some extraordinary circumstances, as if he'd been fired upon. If he didn't mean to mislead the audience into imagining that weapons fire "forced" his craft down he would say that "when the weather forced down my helicopter." If he didn't mean to give his helicopter ride more gravity, the "forced down" part was meaningless to the greater point.

After all, Biden linked the war, the hunt for bin Laden, al Qaeda and his helicopter going down in one story as if they were all directly linked. But, in truth, the helicopter going down had absolutely nothing to do with al Qaeda, bin Laden, or the war. It was all because of a little snow and THAT could have happened right in Delaware.

Nice that Biden has his own little "Tuzla moment" to match Hillary's isn't it? Maybe Viet Nam war veteran John Kerry, who was on the trip with Biden, could add some blood curdling details?

“We were going to send Biden out to fight the Taliban with snowballs, but we didn’t have to do it…Other than getting a little cold, it was fine.”

Do you hear that people of America? Joe Biden got cold in defense of freedom! Let's get this man a medal!

Update: Ed Morrissey has more:

However, this has more similarities than differences to Hillary’s fable of coming under fire, and it’s the second time this year Biden has pulled a myth of his personal courage out on the campaign trail. Perhaps he feels the need to overcompensate for his lack of military service while attempting to run against a genuine war hero like John McCain, but clearly Biden’s trying to impress people through wild exaggerations of both his knowledge and his courage.

Update II: Come to think of it, I've been in dozens of planes and helicopters that were "forced down"...by gravity... whenever the pilots decreased the engine thrust. Fortunately for me, there was typically an airport conveniently close by! There was snow at some of those airports, too!(I wonder if Obama needs a new running mate for 2012?)

Astroturf Smears - With Ties to Obama?

Jawa asserts:
Our research suggests that a subdivision of one of the largest public relations firms in the world most likely started and promulgated rumors about Sarah Palin that were known to be false. These rumors were spread in a surreptitious manner to avoid exposure.

It is also likely that the PR firm was paid by outside sources to run the smear campaign. While not conclusive, evidence suggests a link to the Barack Obama campaign.

Jawa then lists eight points, followed by an interesting update:

Within 1 hour of posting, "eswinner" has removed all videos from YouTube and began removing any traces of his activities. But we have the video and all relevant websites backed up.

If "eswinner" isn't Ethan Winner of the Publicis Groupe, then why did "eswinner" yank the video so quickly? Or if this was just an innocent homemade ad, then what does he have to hide? You'd think he'd want more attention for it.

This seems to have the smell of three day old fish and the fingerprints of Captain Combover (David Axelrod) all over it!

Jawa has another video comparing the voice on this "amateur" video with one of Obama's ads:

Check out My Pet Jawa. He goes into great detail of who these people are posting the ad and their connections to Barack Obama. It appears to be "astroturf" at best, a way to circumvent Federal election law at worst. We report, you decide!

...Obama attacked outsider Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin for her own unfamiliarity with national government. Fair enough. But again, that tactic still bothered voters: Wasn’t the Alaskan governor a fresh — and welcome — face just like first-term Sen. Obama? And wasn’t Biden a stale old-timer in Washington — and if so, as suspect as veteran John McCain? And, come to think of it, wouldn’t it have been better to have the experienced candidate at the top of the ticket, balanced by the outsider at the bottom, rather than vice versa?

Son of Democrat state representative suspected.

The hacker who violated Sarah Palin's privacy is off the front pages, but the matter hasn't gone away.

The FBI is stepping up its investigation into the possibility that a University of Tennessee student hacked into the personal e-mail of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
...agents with the FBI served a federal search warrant at the Fort Sanders residence of David Kernell early Sunday morning. Kernell lives in the Commons apartment complex at 1115 Highland Ave.

David Kernell is the son of Mike Kernell, a Democratic state representative from Memphis.

"Most Ethical Congress" Marches On!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Rules? We don't need no stinking rules!"

“This leadership team will create the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in history”

– Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), November 16, 2006

Nancy's "Most Ethical Congress" Marches On! Down in Florida, the The Palm Beach Post reports:
Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney has a homestead exemption on a house in Palm Beach Gardens and describes it as his primary residence. But the address on Mahoney's voter registration is a barn with a small apartment that he owns in the rural Caloosa area west of Palm Beach Gardens. The barn is in the 16th Congressional District that Mahoney represents; the homesteaded house is just outside Mahoney's district.

Remember what your Mom always told you?
Close that door! Were you raised in a barn?

You shoulda said,
"No, Ma! I'm only listing it as my residence for political purposes!"

"It's embarrassing for Tim Mahoney to not live in his own district and then use a barn in the 16th District as his voting address," Rooney (Mahoney's Republican challenger) campaign spokesman Jeff Ostermayer said. "It's shameful that a member of the Financial Services Committee isn't registered to vote where he takes his homestead exemption."

Mahoney is the second local congressman to come under fire over his residency in recent months. In July, Democratic U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler was criticized for owning a house in Maryland while declaring Florida residency at his in-laws' house west of Delray Beach. While maintaining he did nothing wrong, Wexler rented an apartment west of Boca Raton to quell the uproar.

There is no scandal so grievous that a Democrat will not respond to in a timely fashion...after they're caught!

BTW, in case our Resident Partisan Scold is listening:
Apparently, Rep. Mahoney is caught up in his own sex scandal:

The discrepancies in where Mahoney claims his primary residence and the address listed on his voter I.D. card (a barn) are supposedly due to the fact that Mahoney and his wife no longer share the same address.

Apparently, Tim Mahoney, through one of his consultants, has paid a former staffer, Trish Allen, $250,000 in hush money to keep a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by Mrs. Allen against Congressman Mahoney from the public view.

Sex, lies and...where's the video tape?

Scaring Seniors: Obama Ad Fails Fact Check

Annenberg's FactCheck.org, hardly a right-wing organization, has this to say about Obama's new ad, in what they call Scaring Seniors:

A new Obama ad characterizes the "Bush-McCain privatization plan" as "cutting Social Security Benefits in half." This is a falsehood sure to frighten seniors who rely on their Social Security checks. In truth, McCain does not propose to cut those checks at all.

Who was that guy that talked about "Lying liars"? Here's the ad in question:

The ad refers to a Bush proposal from 2005 to hold down the growth of benefits for future retirees. Compared to the buying power of benefits paid to today's retirees, that would not have been a "cut" for anybody. It would have been a "cut" of half only in relation to benefits now promised to retirees who have yet to be born. And for average workers, that "cut" in 2075 was projected by one of Obama's own economic advisers to be 28 percent, not "half."

Fact Check continues:

The ad also says McCain voted "in favor of privatizing Social Security." The term "privatizing" could give the wrong impression. McCain does support creating government-managed accounts that would allow individuals to invest some portion of their Social Security payroll taxes in widely diversified stock or bond funds.

Note the words "small portion". Typically, they're talking about two percent. Hardly enough to break the bank.

...The ad implies that Bush's plan bets the whole lot of Social Security funds on unstable stocks. In fact, it would have "privatized" only a small portion of Social Security taxes that Americans could have invested in private accounts, if they chose to do so.

Note the words "if they chose". Now who is the party that's always beating their chest about choice, except when it actually comes to giving a choice to somebody? If you choose not to, then none of your funds are at any greater risk and you get the same crappy return on all of them!

FactCheck concludes the article with this:

Ads like this, however, misinform the public and make the job of fixing the system more difficult.

Ironically, the ad is called: "Promise". What about Obama's promise to change business as usual in Washington? Where's the Hopey/Change in all of that? Sounds like the same old lying political horse hockey we've been getting from Washington politicians for years!

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are both lawyers. Neither John McCain nor Sarah Palin is a lawyer.

...Of 12 Democratic presidential and vice presidential nominees since 1980, all but two (Jimmy Carter and Al Gore) were lawyers. Of the nine Republican nominees in the same period, all but two (Dan Quayle and Bob Dole) were nonlawyers.

The Republicans, that is, have not had a lawyer on the ticket since 1996. The Democrats have had two lawyers on each ticket since 2000. The last Republican ticket with two lawyers was Ford-Dole in 1976; the last Democratic ticket without a lawyer was Johnson-Humphrey in 1968.

So what did Corning make at the plant? The ad, which you can see here, does not say, but the AP story does: "glass tubes for television sets and computer monitors."

...In modern times, the CRT has given way to superior technologies such as plasma and liquid crystal, which take up less space and provide superior picture quality. This is an enormous blessing to all Americans who watch TV or use computers.

It's hard to imagine a more backward-looking position than mourning the decline of the picture-tube industry. What'll Obama do next, promise to restore American supremacy in the manufacture of buggy whips, iron lungs and floppy disks?

Clinton Appointed Federal Judge Being Impeached

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Bad enough, the libs don't want to say who appointed him, but apparently they knew he was a crook when he was appointed!

Warner Todd Huston writes:

A Federal judge from Louisiana is under a cloud of impeachment and if he’s convicted it’ll be the first Federal judge impeached in almost 20 years.

Sounds newsworthy!

The story was covered by the new wire service named ProPublica, a service that claims to be non-partisan. Yet in two stories on this judge there is not one mention of the fact that he was appointed to the bench by President Bill Clinton, nor that his corruption was known by the Department of Justice when Clinton made the appointment.

Yikes! Where is a Resident Partisan Scold when you need one??

...A while back, I wrote of a new wire service that was starting up to be called ProPublica. This new service claimed that it was going to be a non-partisan service but the fact that it was being funded by left-wing billionaires made me wonder about the veracity of that claim.

The stories tell about $80,000 of unaccounted for cash that drifted into the judge's accounts. (Isn't that almost what William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson had in his freezer?)

It turns out that President Bill Clinton put this corrupt judge on the bench in 1994, even though the Department of Justice knew this guy was a crook. Heck, even the Associated Press mentioned that this judge was a Clinton appointee. Yet strangely, the fact that this corrupt, bribe taking, gambling addicted, thief of a judge was a Clinton appointee didn’t seem relevant to ProPublica. I wonder what that says of ProPublica’s claims that it just wants to report the facts in a non-partisan manner?

Wow! When you are to the left of the AP in your bias, that's really saying something!

Obama's "Post-Racial" Ad Inflames Racial Tensions

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Post-racial politics prize inside!

In light of the Time Magazine article claiming that John McCain is running a “racist” ad, perhaps we should examine the sleazy, racist ad the The One is running in Spanish:

The ad attempts to link McCain with Rush Limbaugh, (hardly close political bedfellows!) and takes a couple of lines out of context from two different parody pieces that Rush did and tries to inflame racial tensions with them. Rush in the WSJ:

Mr. Obama's campaign is now trafficking in prejudice of its own making. And in doing so, it is playing with political dynamite. What kind of potential president would let his campaign knowingly extract two incomplete, out-of-context lines from two radio parodies and build a framework of hate around them in order to exploit racial tensions? The segregationists of the 1950s and 1960s were famous for such vile fear-mongering.

Here's the relevant part of the Spanish-language television commercial Mr. Obama is running in Hispanic communities:
"They want us to forget the insults we've put up with . . . the intolerance . . . they made us feel marginalized in this country we love so much."
Then the commercial flashes two quotes from me: ". . . stupid and unskilled Mexicans" and "You shut your mouth or you get out!"

Sounds pretty damning, eh? Mr. Limbaugh continues:

…more to the point, these sound bites are a deception, and Mr. Obama knows it. The first sound bite was extracted from a 1993 humorous monologue poking fun at the arguments against the North American Free Trade Agreement. Here's the context:
"If you are unskilled and uneducated, your job is going south. Skilled workers, educated people are going to do fine 'cause those are the kinds of jobs Nafta is going to create. If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people, I'm serious, let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do -- let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work."
My point, which is obvious, was that the people who were criticizing Nafta were demeaning workers, particularly low-skilled workers. I was criticizing the mind-set of the protectionists who opposed the treaty. There was no racial connotation to it and no one thought there was at the time. I was demeaning the arguments of the opponents.

So, rather than a quote reflecting what Rush actually said about minorities, the Obama ad substitutes a quote of Rush parodying people he disagreed with!

As for the second sound bite, I was mocking the Mexican government's double standard -- i.e., urging open borders in this country while imposing draconian immigration requirements within its own borders. Thus, I took the restrictions Mexico imposes on immigrants and appropriated them as my own suggestions for a new immigration law.
Here's the context for that sound bite: "And another thing: You don't have the right to protest. You're allowed no demonstrations, no foreign flag waving, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our president or his policies. You're a foreigner: shut your mouth or get out! And if you come here illegally, you're going to jail."
At the time, I made abundantly clear that this was a parody on the Mexican government's hypocrisy and nobody took it otherwise.
The malignant aspect of this is that Mr. Obama and his advisers know exactly what they are doing.

Uh, oh! Another staffer is going under the bus!

The Medal of Honor

Tech Sergeant Russell E. Dunham

Citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at risk of life above and beyond the call of duty. At about 1430 hours on 8 January 1945, during an attack on Hill 616, near Kayserberg, France, T/Sgt. Dunham single-handedly assaulted 3 enemy machineguns. Wearing a white robe made of a mattress cover, carrying 12 carbine magazines and with a dozen hand grenades snagged in his belt, suspenders, and buttonholes, T/Sgt. Dunham advanced in the attack up a snow-covered hill under fire from 2 machineguns and supporting riflemen. His platoon 35 yards behind him, T/Sgt. Dunham crawled 75 yards under heavy direct fire toward the timbered emplacement shielding the left machinegun. As he jumped to his feet 10 yards from the gun and charged forward, machinegun fire tore through his camouflage robe and a rifle bullet seared a 10-inch gash across his back sending him spinning 15 yards down hill into the snow. When the indomitable sergeant sprang to his feet to renew his 1-man assault, a German egg grenade landed beside him. He kicked it aside, and as it exploded 5 yards away, shot and killed the German machinegunner and assistant gunner. His carbine empty, he jumped into the emplacement and hauled out the third member of the gun crew by the collar. Although his back wound was causing him excruciating pain and blood was seeping through his white coat, T/Sgt. Dunham proceeded 50 yards through a storm of automatic and rifle fire to attack the second machinegun. Twenty-five yards from the emplacement he hurled 2 grenades, destroying the gun and its crew; then fired down into the supporting foxholes with his carbine dispatching and dispersing the enemy riflemen. Although his coat was so thoroughly blood-soaked that he was a conspicuous target against the white landscape, T/Sgt. Dunham again advanced ahead of his platoon in an assault on enemy positions farther up the hill. Coming under machinegun fire from 65 yards to his front, while rifle grenades exploded 10 yards from his position, he hit the ground and crawled forward. At 15 yards range, he jumped to his feet, staggered a few paces toward the timbered machinegun emplacement and killed the crew with hand grenades. An enemy rifleman fired at pointblank range, but missed him. After killing the rifleman, T/Sgt. Dunham drove others from their foxholes with grenades and carbine fire. Killing 9 Germans--wounding 7 and capturing 2--firing about 175 rounds of carbine ammunition, and expending 11 grenades, T/Sgt. Dunham, despite a painful wound, spearheaded a spectacular and successful diversionary attack.

Sgt. Dunham: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Boston Herald:
Obama’s 28 male staffers divided among themselves total payroll expenditures of $1,523,120.
Thus, Obama’s average male employee earned $54,397.
Obama’s 30 female employees split $1,354,580 among themselves, or $45,152, on average.

McCain’s 17 male staffers split $916,914, thus averaging $53,936.
His 25 female employees divided $1,396,958 and averaged $55,878.

Who puts their money where their mouth is? I'd vote for that guy this fall!
