Halftime in America? Or the End of a Failed Rookie Season?

Many of you remember that Chrysler Super Bowl commercial, "Halftime in America":

Many people saw this as an oblique Obama ad from a government bailed out Chrysler: "Yes, the last four years under Obama have been tough, but we'll come back 'in the second half'." A few even saw this as an endorsement of Obama by Mr. Eastwood.

I think that was part of the brilliance in having Clint make an appearance at the Republican convention. Last February, it looked like Dirty Harry may have been in the Obama camp. Now, it is clear that he is telling Mr. Obama, "a man's got to know his limitations!"

Apart from the gleeful images ( mine included) of Eastwood's character from Gran Torino telling Obama to "get off his lawn", there is something in the earlier sports analogy that caught my attention. A flaw in reasoning behind "halftime in America", if you will.

When it comes to presidential politics, four years is not "halftime", since there is no guarantee the same team will even be on the field after four years. No, four years is a full season. And typically, after a horrendous losing season, the team owners get themselves a new coach.

We hired a rookie coach in 2008. He talked a good game. He promised that the oceans would recede, the world would love us and there'd be jobs for anyone who wanted one, if only he could spend enough of your hard earned tax dollars to do it. And he spent more money than had ever been spent by one country, including ours, in the history of the world.

He benched two of our best players, Coal and Oil, and guaranteed a multimillion dollar contract to a rookie with bad hamstrings and a torn ACL - Solyndra. And the economic and employment scoreboards kept showing losses. Energy costs skyrocketed, which, incidentally may be the only promise Obama kept!

As our prospective coach, he promised to go through the budget playbook "line by line" to root out any weaknesses. Maybe he even took it with him on the hundred or so rounds of golf he played this season. Maybe if he'd spent more time in the clubhouse and less time with his clubs, he might have made a difference? Maybe Obama thought the ability to coach would seep in through osmosis from his golf clubs, or his chair in the Oval Office, or Air Force One.

His assistant coach, Harry Reid, never even drew up a playbook for the team for three of the the last four years of the season. Funny how they always blamed everything on the former coach, but they never replaced his budget playbook with a real one of their own! Who was it that said a failure to plan is a plan for failure?

Coach Barry went to all the social events coaches go to, attended all the gridiron dinners, even accepted a coaching award from some Norwegians before his team ever took the field, but never produced what he promised: a winning season.

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow team owners, frustrated fans, it's time to fire the coach and get a new one. One who knows that when you are dealing with the jobs and livelihoods and futures of every living American, it is just as important to keep score as it is how we play the game. Everyone in Obama's administration, from the lowliest unnecessary cabinet member to the the hundreds of Czars in charge of making sure all the Czars have their own tee time, received a "participation trophy" from Coach Obama. Most of them will leave with lavish pensions and will soon find cushy jobs lobbying their comrades who remain. But American needs to be about the task of winning. Because we will never "win the future" if we do not win the present.

Have a great retirement in Chicago, Coach Obama. You might apply as head coach of the Bears. I'm sure the Vikings and the Packers will both give you glowing letters of recommendation!

Barack Obama Tweeted this picture of himself, with the caption, "This seat's taken", no doubt feeling left out because all the attention tonight wasn't on him! Seeing the unusual shape of the president's head, I embellished it a little for him!

Disclaimer for the humorless, braindead liberal (but, I repeat myself!):

This is a work of satire. The fact that the fictional character satirized on this poster is carrying a gun, does not mean in any way that we wish any harm to befall President Obama because he is half black, or half white, or half baked. "Get off my lawn" is generally percieved as a "code word" for..."get off my lawn".

If you wish to infer that I, or the character portrayed on this poster, might be less than perfectly satisfied with the current administration, you would not be far from the truth.

Corporal Tibor Rubin

Citation:

Corporal Tibor Rubin distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism during the period from July 23, 1950, to April 20, 1953, while serving as a rifleman with Company I, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in the Republic of Korea. While his unit was retreating to the Pusan Perimeter, Corporal Rubin was assigned to stay behind to keep open the vital Taegu-Pusan Road link used by his withdrawing unit. During the ensuing battle, overwhelming numbers of North Korean troops assaulted a hill defended solely by Corporal Rubin. He inflicted a staggering number of casualties on the attacking force during his personal 24-hour battle, single-handedly slowing the enemy advance and allowing the 8th Cavalry Regiment to complete its withdrawal successfully. Following the breakout from the Pusan Perimeter, the 8 th Cavalry Regiment proceeded northward and advanced into North Korea. During the advance, he helped capture several hundred North Korean soldiers. On October 30, 1950, Chinese forces attacked his unit at Unsan, North Korea, during a massive nighttime assault. That night and throughout the next day, he manned a .30 caliber machine gun at the south end of the unit's line after three previous gunners became casualties. He continued to man his machine gun until his ammunition was exhausted. His determined stand slowed the pace of the enemy advance in his sector, permitting the remnants of his unit to retreat southward. As the battle raged, Corporal Rubin was severely wounded and captured by the Chinese. Choosing to remain in the prison camp despite offers from the Chinese to return him to his native Hungary, Corporal Rubin disregarded his own personal safety and immediately began sneaking out of the camp at night in search of food for his comrades. Breaking into enemy food storehouses and gardens, he risked certain torture or death if caught. Corporal Rubin provided not only food to the starving Soldiers, but also desperately needed medical care and moral support for the sick and wounded of the POW camp. His brave, selfless efforts were directly attributed to saving the lives of as many as forty of his fellow prisoners. Corporal Rubin's gallant actions in close contact with the enemy and unyielding courage and bravery while a prisoner of war are in the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

Cpl. Rubin: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

"It is all about me, isn't it?"

Forty Years Ago, Man Walks on Moon - 7/20/2009 (Updated)

(republished from July 20, 2009)

In the history of flight, it was only sixty-six years from Kitty Hawk to "The Eagle has landed". Man went from a short powered flight to landing on the moon.
Forty years ago, the future looked limitless.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Had the last forty years proceeded apace with the first sixty-six years of flight, where do you think would we be today?

Updated: With the passing of Neil Armstrong, we have lost one of our true pioneers. There was no guarantee that they would even return from this truly historic mission. Neil Armstrong knew and accepted this. He was willing to die for his country if need be. Literally hundreds of things could have gone wrong. So high was the expectation of failure, that William Safire even wrote a speech for Nixon in case Armstrong and Aldrin were stranded on the moon.

Our current president, the one who has largely dismantled and repurposed NASA for Muslim public relations, has chosen to honor the memory of the late Neil Armstrong with... a picture of himself! Because after all, it's not so much what Armstrong achieved so much as it it The One offering flowery oratory! Stay classy, Narcissist-in-Chief!

"Obama Has a Plan to Rebuild America From the Ground Up"

That's what we're afraid of!

Listen at the :15 mark: "Obama Has a Plan to Rebuild America From the Ground Up". This is what we call a "radical" idea.

rad·i·cal    [rad-i-kuhl]
adjective
1. of or going to the root or origin; fundamental: a radical difference.
2. thoroughgoing or extreme, especially as regards change from accepted or traditional forms: a radical change in the policy of a company.
3. favoring drastic political, economic, or social reforms: radical ideas; radical and anarchistic ideologues.
4. forming a basis or foundation.
5. existing inherently in a thing or person: radical defects of character.

In order to build any building "from the ground up", you first must remove anything that is already there. The so called radicals of the sixties believed that society as we knew it needed to be torn down so that a new, "occupy type" society could be built upon the rubble of civilization.

Clinton was a child of the sixties. He is not uncomfortable discussing rebuilding America "from the ground up". In 2008, Obama said, " In five days we are going to fundamentally transform America". He has not yet succeeded. Obamacare will fundamentally transform America if it is allowed to proceed, by changing the relationship between the citizen and the government. The crushing amount of debt incurred by this administration, on top of what was already there, will fundamentally transform America if not curtailed. And none of this will transform America in a good way.

"Now, wait a minute", some might say. "What about the Tea Party? Aren't they considered radical?" In the sense that the Constitution was and is to be the foundation of our government, yes. As far as tearing down society, by tearing down the economy so that government can take a greater role in people's lives, no! And government is the last thing the Democrats want to tear down to the roots, they want government to continue to grow and become more powerful.

A "radical" approach to government could be summed up in the Tenth Amendment:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The power of government is to be based upon "the consent of the governed". Ideally, the closer the government is to the voter, the more accountable it will be. Tea Partiers believe that much, if not most of government has grown beyond what the Constitution set forth as limits and that we have far more government than we can possibly afford.

In education, for example, many people believe that education is primarily the responsibility of the parents, and the more local the control of education is, the more control the parents have over what their child's is being taught. A completing philosophy believes that the government and education bureaucrats know what is best for your child. A federal, top down structure is as unaccountable to any individual parent as possible. And the hubris of thinking that some six figure bureaucrat knows what is best for every student, across fifty different states, in a country of 300 million, in a one-size-fits-all plan, demonstrates an unfounded faith in the power of government. The money to support a federal department of education would be better spent in the classrooms of the communities where the money was siphoned from in the first place.

There are many examples that could be cited of government waste. Unfortunately, other than a little election year lip service, the ruling class of the Nanny State have no interest in government becoming smaller or less intrusive, or less expensive.

There are competing visions this November. One wants to rebuild America from the ground up. In order to do this, they must first tear down what is already there, including the world's premier healthcare system. The other wants to reform our government, by cleaning out the deadwood, and get back to the Constitution that has helped safeguard our freedom for hundreds of years.

"Obama Has a Plan to Rebuild America From the Ground Up", said Bill Clinton. And Obama approved the message. Let's do what we need to do to get rid of the disastrous policies of the last four years and put America back to work again. You owe it to your children.

Corporal Ronald E. Rosser

Citation:

Cpl. Rosser, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry above and beyond the call of duty. While assaulting heavily fortified enemy hill positions, Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, was stopped by fierce automatic-weapons, small-arms, artillery, and mortar fire. Cpl. Rosser, a forward observer was with the lead platoon of Company L, when it came under fire from 2 directions. Cpl. Rosser turned his radio over to his assistant and, disregarding the enemy fire, charged the enemy positions armed with only carbine and a grenade. At the first bunker, he silenced its occupants with a burst from his weapon. Gaining the top of the hill, he killed 2 enemy soldiers, and then went down the trench, killing 5 more as he advanced. He then hurled his grenade into a bunker and shot 2 other soldiers as they emerged. Having exhausted his ammunition, he returned through the enemy fire to obtain more ammunition and grenades and charged the hill once more. Calling on others to follow him, he assaulted 2 more enemy bunkers. Although those who attempted to join him became casualties, Cpl. Rosser once again exhausted his ammunition obtained a new supply, and returning to the hilltop a third time hurled grenades into the enemy positions. During this heroic action Cpl. Rosser single-handedly killed at least 13 of the enemy. After exhausting his ammunition he accompanied the withdrawing platoon, and though himself wounded, made several trips across open terrain still under enemy fire to help remove other men injured more seriously than himself. This outstanding soldier's courageous and selfless devotion to duty is worthy of emulation by all men. He has contributed magnificently to the high traditions of the military service.

Cpl. Rosser: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.
