Trouble in Marijuanaville?
It is a long and widely accepted theory that pot smokers, being the mellowed out folk that they are, are not likely to commit violent crimes as, say, a drunk might? Here is some anecdotal evidence to the contrary:
Pot-smoking jail escapee tries to grab officers' guns
Police used a safe-wrap restraint system and a spit mask to subdue a pot-smoking Honor Farm escapee who fought with officers and tried to take their guns Wednesday afternoon in downtown Stockton, authorities said.
A bicycle patrol officer approached a man who was smoking marijuana in the first block of North American Street shortly before 3 p.m., police said. The man lied about his identity and then attempted to run away, officers said.
Run away? I thought the mellowed out weed smoker was just supposed to sit there with a goofy grin on his face and say, "Gee, Officer! It crawled into my hand! Honest!!
The officer and two backup officers attempted to detain the man... At that point, the man, identified by police as 22-year-old Matthew Cook, punched one of the officers, a witness said.
“The guy started punching the officer and the officer started punching him back,” Ruben Mendoza, 30, said. “I think that guy must be on drugs or something because it took three officers to get one guy down. That was a strong guy.”
During the fight, Cook tried to grab three officers’ guns, but he was unable to unholster any of their weapons, police said.
So, he tried to take the officers' guns away because he must have wanted to stick daisies in the barrels?? Might he have been on other drugs in addition to marijuana? Sure. But what we do know is that he was smoking marijuana out on the street, in a state where it is not legal. (Which could support the claim that marijuana damages brain cells). He punched the officers who were trying to subdue him and he tried to take their guns away from them.
At this point, it's merely anecdotal, not necessarily indicative of any larger trend. But the next time one of your pro-pot buddies gives you the line about how mellow and nonviolent pot smokers are, tell them about Matthew Cook.
Oh, and Matthew: Didn't your momma ever teach you it was impolite to spit??

The Least Serious President in the History of the Republic™ on Ukraine, Syria & the Economy, Part Deux
"Next week, I'll be in Europe to coordinate with our closest allies and partners. In Estonia, I will reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the defense of our NATO allies. At the NATO summit in the United Kingdom, we'll focus on the additional steps we can take to ensure the alliance remains prepared for any challenge."
Unwavering commitment? Check.
"Our meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission will be another opportunity for our alliance to continue our partnership with Ukraine, and I look forward to reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the United States to Ukraine and its people when I welcome President Poroshenko to the White House next month."
"Partnership"? Check.
"...Ukraine is not a member of NATO, but a number of those states that are close by are. And we take our Article 5 commitments to defend each other very seriously, and that includes the smallest NATO member, as well as the largest NATO member."
"...and take our Article 5 commitments to defend each other very seriously" (Having trouble suppressing a giggle here!) Check.
Let me see...unwavering commitment to our allies and "partners", taking our Article 5 commitments to defend each other very seriously, then why in the Hell haven't you grown a backbone and done something about the incursions into Crimea, which everyone has apparently already ceded to the Russians, and the continuing invasion of the Ukraine, which you will not call by its proper name?
Didn't we already have a "commitment" to the Ukraine, if not a signatory of NATO?
Let me remind you, Mr. President, since apparently golf
The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances is a political agreement signed in Budapest, Hungary on 5 December 1994, providing security assurances by its signatories relating to Ukraine's accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The Memorandum was originally signed by three nuclear powers, the Russian Federation, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom. China and France gave somewhat weaker individual assurances in separate documents.
The memorandum included security assurances against threats or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine as well as those of Belarus and Kazakhstan. As a result Ukraine gave up the world's third largest nuclear weapons stockpile between 1994 and 1996, of which Ukraine had physical though not operational control. The use of the weapons was dependent on Russian controlled electronic Permissive Action Links and the Russian command and control system.
So, because it was only a "memorandum" and not a treaty, the "assurances of security" are null and void? What happened to "unwavering commitment"? Partnership"?? Taking our commitments to defend each other very seriously???
And, of course, since it is Barack Obama, it gets worse!
As a newly minted Senator, Barack Obama pushed to disarm the Ukraine of not only its nuclear arsenal, but conventional weapons as well. Why would they need them? They have the US and Great Britain guaranteeing their security and territorial integrity!
Senator Obama pushed bill that helped destroy more than 15,000 TONS of ammunition, 400,000 small arms and 1,000 anti-aircraft missiles in Ukraine
* Obama traveled to Ukraine with Sen. Dick Lugar in 2005 just seven months after he became a senator, touring surplus weapons stockpiles
* Most of the small arms and ammunition were left over when Soviets withdrew from Eastern bloc nations, and later dumped in Ukraine
* The two senators secured U.S. funding to help destroy the weapons instead of leaving them intact
And now, the man who helped disarm the Ukraine is in no hurry to ship them any arms with which they could defend themselves, after broaching the promise to keep them and their territory secure.
Barack Obama: The gift that keeps on giving.

The Least Serious President in the History of the Republic™ on Ukraine, Syria & the Economy
Our peerless Narcissist-in-Chief made a few remarks today:
Our focus right now is to protect American personnel on the ground in Iraq, to protect our embassy, to protect our consulates, to make sure that critical infrastructure that could adversely affect our personnel is protected...our core priority right now is just to make sure that our folks are safe...The president is focused. Got it!
It is not just part of my responsibility, but it is a sacred duty for me as commander in chief to protect the American people. And that requires me to act fast based on information I receive if an embassy of ours or a consulate of ours is being threatened. You mean like you did in Benghazi?? Surely I am not the only one to have Benghazi come to mind while the Poseur-in-Chief preens mindlessly about a "sacred duty" to "act fast based on information I receive if an embassy of ours or a consulate of ours is being threatened."
Again, Mr. President, what exactly did you do Sept. 11th, 2011? Did you not say, Mr. President,
"... the minute I found out what was happening, I gave three very clear directives. Number one, make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to. Number two, we’re going to investigate exactly what happened so that it doesn’t happen again. Number three, find out who did this so we can bring them to justice. And I guarantee you that everyone in the state department, our military, the CIA, you name it, had number one priority making sure that people were safe. These were our folks and we’re going to find out exactly what happened, but what we’re also going to do it make sure that we are identifying those who carried out these terrible attacks.”
-Barack Obama, Oct. 26, 2012
What orders did you give and to whom? Were they carried out? If not, why not? And if not, what were the consequences of refusing to carry out a direct order from the President of the United States? Was this person fired? Disciplined in any way??
Based upon your performance in office, or lack thereof, what makes you think your remarks today have the slightest bit of credibility?
Along that same line, maybe you should go back to letting Michelle pick out your suits for you?

Medal of Honor
Corporal Tibor Rubin
Citation:
Corporal Tibor Rubin distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism during the period from July 23, 1950, to April 20, 1953, while serving as a rifleman with Company I, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in the Republic of Korea. While his unit was retreating to the Pusan Perimeter, Corporal Rubin was assigned to stay behind to keep open the vital Taegu-Pusan Road link used by his withdrawing unit. During the ensuing battle, overwhelming numbers of North Korean troops assaulted a hill defended solely by Corporal Rubin. He inflicted a staggering number of casualties on the attacking force during his personal 24-hour battle, single-handedly slowing the enemy advance and allowing the 8th Cavalry Regiment to complete its withdrawal successfully. Following the breakout from the Pusan Perimeter, the 8 th Cavalry Regiment proceeded northward and advanced into North Korea. During the advance, he helped capture several hundred North Korean soldiers. On October 30, 1950, Chinese forces attacked his unit at Unsan, North Korea, during a massive nighttime assault. That night and throughout the next day, he manned a .30 caliber machine gun at the south end of the unit's line after three previous gunners became casualties. He continued to man his machine gun until his ammunition was exhausted. His determined stand slowed the pace of the enemy advance in his sector, permitting the remnants of his unit to retreat southward. As the battle raged, Corporal Rubin was severely wounded and captured by the Chinese. Choosing to remain in the prison camp despite offers from the Chinese to return him to his native Hungary, Corporal Rubin disregarded his own personal safety and immediately began sneaking out of the camp at night in search of food for his comrades. Breaking into enemy food storehouses and gardens, he risked certain torture or death if caught. Corporal Rubin provided not only food to the starving Soldiers, but also desperately needed medical care and moral support for the sick and wounded of the POW camp. His brave, selfless efforts were directly attributed to saving the lives of as many as forty of his fellow prisoners. Corporal Rubin's gallant actions in close contact with the enemy and unyielding courage and bravery while a prisoner of war are in the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
Cpl. Rubin: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Earthquake in Napa Valley CA
It was reportedly a 6.0 quake, causing a lot of damage, much of it from fires from ruptured gas lines. No fatalities or missing persons reported yet. But take a look at the double yellow lines in that picture I just grabbed. CalTrans is filling a crack in the roadway: look how far the roadway has shifted side to side.
