Banned Sex in Advertising -video

I suppose I could have saved this for "Sex in Advertising", but it might have lost a bit of its topical flavor.

Brazil's ministry for women has called for a TV advertisement featuring supermodel Gisele Bundchen in her underwear to be suspended.

The ministry has asked the advertising authorities to ban the lingerie ad, which it says "reinforces the erroneous stereotyping of women as sex objects".

In the ad, a scantily-clad Ms Bundchen distracts her husband while telling him bad news, such as damaging the car.

Are they suggesting to take the "bra" out of "Brazil"? I don't know about you, but she could wreck my car, any day!

Abercrombie: Push Up Bra Swimsuits for Seven Year Olds

Sigh. Every time you think the culture has hit rock bottom, someone starts digging again!

Seven years old is not the time for any child to be thinking about sexuality. Seven is a time for Dora the Explorer, not Debbie Does Dallas. What possible benefit could a seven year old girl have in being found more sexually attractive to either men and boys who are ready to act on such urges, or even to those who do not?

Gail Dines, a sociology professor at Wheelock College in Boston, similarly slammed the top, saying it would encourage girls to think about themselves in a sexual way before they are ready.

"It (also) sends out really bad signals to adult men about young girls being appropriate sexual objects,"

Children grow up fast enough. There's no need to steal their childhood and innocence from them at that age. And any mothers vainly trying to relive their lost glory through their too, too young daughters, should seek counseling, not push up bras for little girls.

Chinese Rule Five Lingerie

Kennedy had his "missile gap", Clinton had a "credibility gap", now Obama must contend with the Chinese "cleavage gap". The commercial is five minutes long. That's half your daily minimum requirement, guys!

My Chinese may be a little rusty, but I could have sworn they used the word "Boobzilla" in there! I'm not sure about the science, but they seem to be implying that if you clamp down hard enough, all your fat cells move to your chest. Could give a whole new meaning to "bondage"!

(They could have done without a couple of the "love handle" shots, though!)

Great Britain Keeps Abreast of Inflation

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Yet another uplifting story...

Britain’s amplest bosoms heaved a collective sigh of relief last week when Bravissimo, a lingerie label for larger sized breasts, announced the arrival of the L-cup to its range.

The company says customers squeezing themselves into a KK-cup — a size launched two years ago to meet increasing demand — have been campaigning for larger bras ever since.

And although an L-cup remains far larger than the national average, there can be no doubt that when a High Street chain sees reason to supply it, demand is growing — and so, it would seem, are our breasts.

What? The L???

Update: This isn't the first time Brits and big breasts has been "up front" in the news. "Inflation Hits Great Britain"

Cash in Bra Saves Woman's Life

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is not a new story, but I came across it while looking for an illustration for the last story. After solar powered and bullet proof bras, bras that double as gas masks, a story about plain ordinary underwear stuffed with cash, seems almost prescient, given the preceding story...

Apr 15, 2009 It’s no secret that since the invention of bodices and bras women have been using them as their personal banks, stuffing them with cash for safe keeping.
A wad of cash stashed by Ivonete Pereira de Oliveira, 58, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, can thank her hidden cache of cash for saving her life.
Oliveira was struck by a stray bullet when an off-duty police officer shot it out with two men, who were attempting to rob a bus she was a passenger on, said Salvador city police spokesman Vicente de Paula.
The cash, 150 reals is the equivalent to $70, slowed the bullet enough preventing it from entering her heart and killing her instantly.

Inflation hits Great Britain.

In order to take your mind off politics for a moment, consider the following:

It may be the first time a bust has caused a boom.

Marks & Spencer yesterday reported better than expected sales after the launch of its ‘two sizes bigger’ bra – which seems to have had the same uplifting effect on profits as it has on customers’ cleavages.

The bra, which was introduced in July, is now selling at a rate of one every three minutes.

Just remember kids: Not all inflationary trends are bad! (Just most of them!)

Bra Doubles as Gas Mask

You may have heard recently, of the inventor who created a bra that doubles as a gas mask in an emergency. (Motto: One for you and one to share!)

The obvious moral dilemma for the wearer, is with whom to share in the event it becomes necessary? The not so obvious problem is for all of those women who use the product as designed who then become technically, if only temporarily, "indigent", as they have no visible means of support!

What to Get the Woman Who Has Everything

...a bullet proof brassiere! From The Telegraph:

Carmen Kibat, a policewoman in Hamburg who tested the new underwear, said: "These can save someone's life so it's not a laughing matter." She organised "Action Brassiere" across Germany, getting hundreds of policewomen to try the bras out in the line of duty.

...Three thousand front-line women police officers will now be required to wear the bras on duty. Their bosses have decided to allow them to have three each.

Front-line? Here's a marketing slogan for them (Übersetzungen extra!):

Changing the front line of police women, one officer at a time!
