Herman Cain Suspends His Presidential Campaign
Herman Cain, the affable and sometimes controversial candidate for president has suspended his presidential campaign.
ATLANTA — An unapologetic and defiant Herman Cain suspended his presidential campaign on Saturday, pledging that he “would not go away,” even as he abandoned hope of winning the Republican nomination. Instead, Mr. Cain announced what he called a “Plan B,” continued advocacy of his tax and foreign policy plans.
“As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign,” Mr. Cain said. “Because of the continued distractions, the continued hurt caused on me and my family, not because we are not fighters. Not because I’m not a fighter.”
Mr. Cain, his wife at his side and adamantly professing his innocence, went out much the way he came in. The circus-like atmosphere – complete with numerous postponements, barbeque, a blues band and supporters in colonial-era dress – was in keeping with the campaign’s irreverence and disarray since its inception: Mr. Cain, a self-styled rebel, announced his intention to run earlier this year at a rally, also in Atlanta, with the nonsensical phrase, “Aw, shucky ducky!”
He interjected life into the campaign with his 9-9-9 plan, but repeated "bimbo eruptions" to use the Clinton era phrase, apparently doomed his credibility.
Perhaps there will be a place for Cain in the next Republican administration?

C.S.I. -Herman Cain's Car
Does anyone know what kind of car Herman Cain was driving that night? Or just exactly how large that front seat might be? Because I'm not sure this woman's story holds water. You have Mr. Cain and Ms. Bialek sitting side by side in the front seat. Cain is behind the wheel. He turns towards her and supposedly puts his hand on her leg and runs it up under her skirt. (00:45) Okay. Which hand?
I'm 6'3", with pretty long arms. Sitting in my car today, I tried reaching over with my left hand to where a passenger would be sitting. I had to lean forward to get anywhere near the top of a passenger's leg. It was awkward and uncomfortable and even more awkward if I would have tried to run my hand up the passenger's leg. My right hand, on the other hand (pun intended) reached easily and comfortably. So, let's assume for the moment that a person in the driver's seat could put his right hand up the skirt of someone in the passenger seat.
"He also grabbed my head and brought it towards his crotch." (00:53) Okay. At the risk of being crass...which hand? We pretty much established his right hand would be otherwise engaged. So, he must have used his left? I tried reaching around to simply touch the headrest on the passenger's side. It was even more awkward and I could barely touch it, much less imagine grabbing anyone's head and pulling it towards me. But again, with my right hand, I could do it easily.
But, she said..."also". As in, "at the same time"? Or was their some finite amount of time between the two events? Time in which to say "no!" or "WTF do you think you're doing?", or, "I'm not that kind of girl!" Something. I don't see anyone slyly slipping his left hand up her skirt or crossing his arms to grab her head, while in the front seat of a car, so if the sexual advances took place at all, would not the first action be an indication of more to come? (Pun also intended.)
And here's the tricky part. (Trick? Oblique pun intended.) If a man were to bring a woman's head towards his crotch, would he not first have needed his trousers unzipped? Wouldn't that have been a very large and definite indication of his intentions? In that situation, how did we get hand up the skirt, trousers unzipped, and head pulled down all before you tell him "no"?
Ladies, here's a clue: If the guy in the car with you unzips his pants, it's probably not so you can do his laundry! But she didn't say he did, and it seems odd that any man might pull a woman's head to his crotch so that she could admire the weave of his slacks. So, is she leaving out details of the story or making one up?
Seems to me, the only way her story would work, would be for them to be sitting very close together, with perhaps, at least some initial cooperation on her part. And there was alcohol involved. They met for drinks. How many? What kind? Anyone know if they had wine with their dinner? How much? Alcohol would impair judgment, both his and hers.
And finally, they were already friendly with one another, sat together at conferences, she met him for drinks, went out to dinner with him, and to one degree or another, perhaps under the influence, someone gave off the wrong signals or someone saw signals that weren't there? If it happened at all, and it's hard to be sure with the "he said, she said", I still don't see Herman Cain as a sexual predator. Maybe someone would have to present some kind of tangible or concrete evidence first.
Frankly, I would also be more inclined to believe Ms. Bialek's story had she not come into the clutches of Ms. Gloria Allred. Allred is a Democrat operative who has torpedoed Republican politicians before for fun and profit. This smells a little too contrived. And isn't it odd that none of this came out during Cain's run for the Senate?
I'm not saying it couldn't have happened, but before we assassinate the man's character, maybe we could establish a slightly higher bar of evidence than "He said, she said"?
The Lady doth protest too much, methinks.

What's the Motivation for All of the Sudden Sexual Allegations Against Herman Cain?
Unless you've been in a come for the last twenty four to forty eight hours, you've heard something of the allegations of a sexual nature against Herman Cain. Now, one might expect it is simply the product of being a front runner. One of Cain's opponents is afraid of him rising in the polls and takes a preemptive swing at the front runner in order to drag him down. But, I think there might be something else in play.
Most Democrats have become disenchanted with Barack Obama. They long for the days of Bill Clinton in the White House. Maybe this is a concerted effort to make Cain look more like Clinton?
Maybe a Karl Rove/James Carvillesque campaign strategist figured that the Hermanator would appeal to Democrats more if he had a little more of Clinton's bad boy in him?
Obama is a lost cause. No one would ever believe that he would cheat on Michelle! Not if he knows what's good for him! Michelle's got him by at least twenty pounds, and with those "well toned upper arms" everyone's always talking about, she would beat him within an inch of his life! Besides, not only does she have his "family jewels" locked away in her jewelry box, but she has the look and the reputation of someone you do not want to cross!
Obama might ogle the girls' butts, but Herman is the one with the twinkle in his eye who doesn't need a teleprompter to chat up the ladies. And Mitt?? Mitt wouldn't even cheat on his taxes! Yeah. I'm thinking it's Bad Boy Herman Cain they're marketing in 2012.
Mr. Cain: I am available to write your campaign copy for you. But don't wait too long! The Huntsman campaign is in need of some sweet, sweet scandal. Or some NO-DOZ®...
(Author now removes tongue that was firmly planted in cheek.)

Herman Cain Makes it Official
The Hermanator threw his hat in the ring for president today.
A long shot? Definitely. But then, what was Barack Obama against the inevitability of a Hillary Clinton candidacy?
H/T Memeorandum
Tea Party favorite Herman Cain announced his long-shot presidential candidacy to a raucous crowd in Atlanta Saturday, yelling, "I'm running for president of the United States and I'm not running for second."
At a rally attended by thousands, the businessman, author and talk radio show host showed he knows how to wow a conservative gathering. The crowd chanted, "Herman, Herman, Herman," as Cain unleashed the same soaring rhetoric and relentless attacks on President Obama that has created buzz in recent weeks.
"Let me tell you some of the reasons why I'm running for president of the United States. We have become a nation of crises," he said, citing morals, the economy, entitlement spending, immigration and foreign affairs as among the crises facing the nation.
"And we've got a deficiency of leadership crisis in the White House," he said to roaring cheers.
A long shot? Definitely. But then, what was Barack Obama against the inevitability of a Hillary Clinton candidacy?

The Cain Doctrine: "You Mess With Israel, You Mess With the United States"
Stacy McCain had this great piece of video to cleanse the residue of Obama's folly from earlier this week. On the brighter side, if the world does come to an end in the next twenty four hours, no one will really care just how bad a president Obama truly is.
"You Mess With Israel, You Mess With the United States" Sounds an awful lot like the way we used to treat our allies!

Focus on Herman Cain/ Huckabee's Sour Grapes
According to Frank Luntz’s focus group, Herman Cain was the biggest winner at the South Carolina debate.
I was listening to Mike Huckabee's morning commentary, where he teased his audience with a promise to give his opinion of who the biggest winner was in the debate.
When he came back, he said the biggest winners were "those who decided not to participate". Since Mr. Huckabee's name is being bandied about for president, it was disingenuous not to answer the question honestly, or at least try to be a little bit gracious. Instead, his remark sounded petty and small minded, as from someone either fearful of losing the nomination to one of these men, or someone so insecure in his own abilities that he could not or would not give credit where credit was due. (Or both) Either way, the quality doesn't lend itself to being considered presidential. You can't name the biggest winner, Huck? I can name the biggest loser. He not only didn't participate in the debate, but his sour grapes and pettiness bring his judgment into question. Not unlike another incident from his tenure as governor commuting of the sentence of Maurice Clemmons, who later went on to kill four police officers.
Stick to stories about kittens up a tree, Huck and yakking on the radio. A reprise of your failed presidential candidacy will satisfy no one but you.

Herman Cain 1, Liberal Shill 0
Over at The Other McCain, Stacy posted this gem about the dynamic Herman Cain confronting a young liberal. The young man pulls out the same tired strawman, that if one is against too much government, then one is arguing against all government. As if to say, if you are a conservative, then you must be an anarchist. Unfortunately for liberals, words mean things.
I blame the public schools.

Herman Cain Wins Presidential Straw Poll in Phoenix
Herman Cain wins Tea Party presidential live straw poll at Phoenix summit

And, although most straw polls are worth every bit as much straw as you can take away from them, this one is interesting!
I'd make some snarky remark about how Ron Paul's supporters somehow always manage to put him in first place on Internet polls, no matter how little actual support he has, but I already did!

Which Republican should become the next president? Herman Cain, according to a number of Tea Party activists gathered at a weekend summit in Phoenix.
Cain, a conservative talk show host and former Godfather's Pizza chief executive, won the American Policy Summit's presidential live straw poll on Sunday. Republican Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the summit's online poll. The survey is a chance for conservative activists gathered on the last day of the Tea Party Patriots conference to name their favorite presidential picks.
Cain won nearly 22 percent of the nearly 1,600 votes cast. Paul won nearly half the votes cast by more than 2,300 online registered attendees. "The mood at this summit shows that Tea Party activists are looking for leaders who share our principles of fiscal responsibility and limited government and who will vow to uphold policies that reflect those principles once in office," said Jenny Beth Martin, national coordinator of Tea Party Patriots.
"Mr. Cain and Rep. Paul's positions resonated with Tea Party Patriots this weekend and the straw poll indicates the enthusiasm for these strong conservatives," said Mark Meckler, the Patriots' other national coordinator.
I'd make some snarky remark about how Ron Paul's supporters somehow always manage to put him in first place on Internet polls, no matter how little actual support he has, but I already did!

Racists of the Left Fear, Attack Herman Cain
Despicable doesn't even begin to describe this (via Hot Air):
"Monkey in the window"? A scum sucking liberal writing for the site "AlterNet", which I shall not link to here, trots out every racist slur they can imagine and then projects them onto conservatives. To me, this much vitriol* must be genuine and heartfelt, not imagined. This may be due in part, because they have an "alternate" reality in which black is white, right is wrong and intolerance is tolerance.

In the immortal words of Megatron in Transformers: The Movie, Herman Cain’s speech at CPAC really is bad comedy. As you know, I findblack garbage pail kidsblack conservatives fascinating not because of what they believe, but rather because of how they entertain and perform for their White Conservative masters.
When race minstrelsy was America’s most popular form of mass entertainment, black actors would often have to pretend to be white men, who then in turn would put on the cork to play the role of the “black” coon, Sambo, or Jumping Jim Crow. Adding insult to injury, in a truly perverse and twisted example of the power of American white supremacy black vaudevillians would often pretend to be white in order to denigrate black people for the pleasures of the white gaze. …
In total, CPAC is a carnival and a roadshow for reactionary Conservatives. It is only fitting that in the great tradition of the freak show, the human zoo, the boardwalk, and the great midway world’s fairs of the 19th and 20th centuries, that there is a Borneo man, a Venus Hottentot or a tribe of cannibals from deepest darkest Africa or Papua New Guinea on display. For CPAC and the White Conservative imagination, Herman Cain and his black and brown kin are that featured attraction.
We always need a monkey in the window, for he/she reminds us of our humanity while simultaneously reinforcing a sense of our own superiority. Sadly, there are always folks who are willing to play that role because it pays so well.

Herman Cain on Democrats and S.I.N.
I found this bit of video over at Right Klik. Note particularly at the end, the three tactics of the Democrats:
Shift the subject
Ignore the facts
Name calling.
