Van Tran for Congress: New Van Tran Ad

by the Left Coast Rebel

The race for California 47th congressional district this week has been a ghost town in comparison to the Whitman/Nannygate bombshell. However, Donald Douglas at American Power came across a real gem, it's a new, effective ad from the Van Tran Campaign.

Loretta Sanchez, stop ducking debates:

It is great and especially effective that they spliced in the audio from Loretta Sanchez's Chief of Staff claiming a Sanchez favorite - that she couldn't seem to find the time to debate Van Tran. I came across this facet quite a bit while researching the race. Funny too that they used the Hefner/Playboy Mansion angle just like I did in my PJM piece!

10:10 Campaign's Global Warming Video, Blowing up Kids and Global Warming Skeptics for Gaia

by the Left Coast Rebel

Story Balloon emailed me this video earlier. Frankly, at first I had no idea just what I was watching. Doug Powers blogging over at Malkin gives some details:
The “10:10 Campaign” purports to be an effort to convince the world to cut carbon emissions ten percent per year for the next ten years. But if that doesn’t work, forget about eco-gulags for deniers — it might be necessary to just blow them up, kids and all.
Truly disgusting and disturbing. Truly, the inevitable conclusion of the pagan, anti-man religion of radical, Marxian-environmentalism is pure evil. Are we to gather that one that is even slightly skeptical of the religion of environmentalism should be blown to bits?:

So, really, what is the point of the violence in the video above? Is it just for the sheer shock factor, to get the youth to watch this thing and thus check out the 10:10 group? It sure didn't work for me, in fact I tried to research the 10:10 group to see if they are a part of some communist-enviro, domestic terrorist group. Also, can you imagine the howls if a group put together a video like this depicting advocates of the Ground Zero Mosque getting blown up?

I found this:

There is usually only a limited amount of damage that can be done by dull or stupid people. For creating a truly monumental disaster, you need people with high IQs.
Such people have been told all their lives how brilliant they are, until finally they feel forced to admit it, with all due modesty. But they not only tend to overestimate their own intelligence, more fundamentally they tend to overestimate how important individual brilliance is when dealing with real-world problems.

Second Lieutenant Daniel K. Inouye

Citation:

Second Lieutenant Daniel K. Inouye distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism in action on 21 April 1945, in the vicinity of San Terenzo, Italy. While attacking a defended ridge guarding an important road junction, Second Lieutenant Inouye skillfully directed his platoon through a hail of automatic weapon and small arms fire, in a swift enveloping movement that resulted in the capture of an artillery and mortar post and brought his men to within 40 yards of the hostile force. Emplaced in bunkers and rock formations, the enemy halted the advance with crossfire from three machine guns. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Second Lieutenant Inouye crawled up the treacherous slope to within five yards of the nearest machine gun and hurled two grenades, destroying the emplacement. Before the enemy could retaliate, he stood up and neutralized a second machine gun nest. Although wounded by a sniper’s bullet, he continued to engage other hostile positions at close range until an exploding grenade shattered his right arm. Despite the intense pain, he refused evacuation and continued to direct his platoon until enemy resistance was broken and his men were again deployed in defensive positions. In the attack, 25 enemy soldiers were killed and eight others captured. By his gallant, aggressive tactics and by his indomitable leadership, Second Lieutenant Inouye enabled his platoon to advance through formidable resistance, and was instrumental in the capture of the ridge. Second Lieutenant Inouye’s extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit on him, his unit, and the United States Army.

Second Lieutenant Inouye: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Former President Jimmy Carter (I love saying that!) heading over "flyover country" on a commercial flight to Cleveland for a book signing was hospitalized for a bout of "air sickness" on his flight in. Air sickness, as you know, is typically accompanied with the extreme desire to vomit.

The principal reason Ohio's unemployment rate is so relatively low is because people have been moving out at about the same rate as the jobs have disappeared. Current estimates are that Ohio will likely lose two of its 18 Congressional seats when those seats are re-apportioned next year. While the national population appears to have increased by about ten percent over the past decade, Ohio's population has been about stable and Washington County has lost three percent.

White Latex Paint Vs. Taser - Crook* Loses

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Red, white and blue latex - Not our crook!

I saw this in today's local dead tree paper. In the stupid crook department, a man from Cheyenne Wyoming covered himself with white latex paint in hopes of avoiding a police Taser. Police stunned him anyway!

September 16th, the Cheyenne police were called to Brian Mattert's house because of domestic violence. When police arrived, according to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, this genius Mattert thought he'd be Tased, so he covered himself in white paint and told the police that if they shot him, he'd die.

The Taser performed as advertised...twice! And what Wyatt Earp over at Support You Local Gunfighter calls "God's Joy Buzzer" got the job done. Other than getting white latex paint on the officers, there were no serious ramifications, other than this moron spending time in the Graybar Hotel covered in paint!

Don't tase me, bro, indeed!

Update: From the Wyoming Tribune Eagle:
According to the police report, Mattert, 34, became defiant and uncooperative.

The officers continued to demand his surrender and explained that the paint would not affect a Taser's capability nor would it cause his death if used.

After some time, the officers were able to get Mattert into his back yard. He tried to pull away and was subsequently shocked with a Taser.

As he lay in a fetal position on the grass, Mattert refused to give up his hand so he could be placed in cuffs. So he was shocked again, and the officers were able to detain him.

A couple of things come to mind in regards to the Bill Maher, "Real Time" HBO segment below. First, it's another instant classic (but not as good as the most recent) from Andrew Breitbart. Who else could nail Bill Maher on his idiotic claim that he is a 'libertarian' while espousing all of the statist, neo-Bolshevik garbage that he continually does. Second, isn't it nice to see liberals (in Hollywood, congress, wherever) admit that they think that European socialism is a preferred frame of government and life to what we have enjoyed in the United States since our founding?:

Colbert: Only Terrorists Have Bigger Bombs*

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Humor is a subjective thing. Not everybody laughs at the same jokes. Not everyone agrees on who's funny. How else could you explain Jerry Lewis, Pauly Shore and early Adam Sandler?

That brings us to Steven Colbert testifying before Congress. Let me say up front that I've never been impressed with Colbert's shtick. I heard the audio of portions of his testimony on Levin's show this afternoon. And while Levin mildly chuckled a couple of times, I didn't. Colbert bombed. Big time.
I later saw portions of the video, with people seated, staring stone faced behind him, also not laughing. I could relate to them. The closest thing to a laugh, was when Colbert mocked Congress for not reading legislation by saying that, like them, he hadn't read it either. That might have been funny if it were not true and indicative of the rot in our nation's capitol. Not really a laughing matter.

It was supposed to be a hearing about immigration and this buffoon is doing jokes about nicknames for gay Iowans. Frankly, it was disgusting. Not the lame gay joke, but the fact that this clown was wasting the time of what ought to be a serious body of people going about the serious business of this country.

That is not to say that legislators must be perpetually dour. I enjoy a good joke as much, if not better than the next man. But, having this court jester testify at a Senate** hearing was the joke. And it wasn't funny.

If the current crop of Congress Critters can't comprehend that. Let's send them home where they can make all the gay Iowan jokes they want. Just not at our expense.

*Closed Captioning for the Humor Impaired: Figurative bombs. It's an colloquial phrase.

**It has been pointed out to me that this was a House hearing. Maybe it was all the comparisons to Al Franken that caused me to make the mistake. Or maybe it was that my Givead*mn was broken concerning this clown and Congress?

Loretta Sanchez, Race Baiter, D-CA

“ … the Vietnamese and the Republicans are — with an intensity — trying to take away this seat, this seat that we [Democrats] have done so much for our community, take away this seat from us and give it to this Van Tran, who’s very anti-immigrant and very anti-Latino.” -Loretta Sanchez

LCR posted earlier on Van Tran's race in California Congressional district 47 against incumbent Loretta Sanchez. The ever classy Sanchez and her supporters refer to Tran's supporters as "Trannies". (Because it's okay to use gay slurs if you're a Democrat or a liberal, or both)

I vaguely remembered her race against B1 Bob Dornan, but couldn't remember much. So, have seeing the apparent racist in her interview on UniVision, I decided to do a little checking.
It appears there was a great deal of voter fraud and ineligible voters (illegal aliens?) that contributed to her victory. According to Sound Politics,

" defeating him by the narrow margin of 984 votes...
Dornan charged that Sanchez's margin came from non-citizens, and an investigation by the House of Representatives found that 547 non-citizens had voted in the election. Some believe that far more non-citizens voted, who were not detected."

They characterized Loretta Sanchez as:
"a Democratic financial analyst named Loretta Sanchez-Brixey, who had run for several minor offices without success. She dropped the Brixey (though not her husband) so as to appear more Hispanic".
Loretta Sanchez(-Brixey) strikes me as an opportunist, a woman of no principle except to get herself elected and re-elected. I'm sure if anyone spoke of "the Hispanics and Democrats" the way she did of "Vietnamese and Republicans", she would probably be on the front line calling for a civil rights investigation. It wouldn't hurt my heart if she were on the unemployment line this November as well!

Bounce Barbara Boxer - Barbie's Bad Week

That hand you feel on your wallet? It's hers.
Jim Geraghty over at The Campaign Spot ran a series of article on Barbara Bouncer (Boxer). Here's a taste...
So far this week, we have examined Senator Barbara Boxer’s purchasing of endorsements, the five-figure expenses tied to her jaunts to do “official business” at beach resorts, her 143 bounced checks for more than $40,000 in three years, and massive payments to her family from campaign funds. (Notice that you don’t need to be a conservative Republican to find any of these issues troubling.) Today, we examine the possibility that Boxer is… not really in touch with what is going on around her.
There's a word for that..."Liberal".
Even those who agree with her stances acknowledge she is not an effective leader... It may be tough to lead when you have a habit of making assertions that don’t line up with… well, all known facts and the perspectives of roughly everyone else on the planet. She’s argued that “I’m going to put in the record … a host of quotes from our national security experts who tell us that carbon pollution leading to climate change will be over the next 20 years the leading cause of conflict, putting our troops in harm’s way.” More than religious and ideological extremism? More than ethnic conflict? More than the profits and power from drug cartels or people smuggling? More than the age-old phenomenon of strong nations attempting to subjugate weak ones, like Russia’s annexation of Georgian territories?
We see a lot of that from some of the left-of-center trolls on this site. They provide cut and paste quotes in lieu of coherent argument.
Back in early 1992, Washington was rocked by the revelation that the House of Representatives was allowing members to overdraw their House checking accounts without penalty, leaving debts unpaid for months at a time. Then-congresswoman Barbara Boxer insisted for months that she’d had no problems with her account at the House bank. Then she admitted she had bounced 87 checks and did not know the amount. Bank records ultimately showed she bounced 143 checks worth $41,417. Boxer insisted she had no idea that she had bounced checks and only learned of the matter when she read about it in the press
Oh, yeah! People who manage money well could have easily written 143 bad checks without knowing about it! /sarcasm Barbara Bouncer is the product of an earlier time, when the country was prosperous enough to overlook the profligacy (and ignorance) of its "ruling class". Congress could p*ss away large sums of money or fund wasteful, useless projects and the Engine of Democracy and Freedom would drag them in its wake. Amateur hour is over. The Democrat Party under the "leadership" of Barack Obama has taken an economy that was heading for a ditch and hit the accelerator. Time to remedy that, starting November 2nd. I can see November from here! Cross posted at Left Coast Rebel, Say Anything

When you watch Chris Christie in action, in a clip like this, we want you to sit back and think about how YOU can be more like him in your OWN lives. Particularly when dealing with YOUR elected officials.

Christie is always professional and, in our opinion, polite to the people he dresses down. But the man knows his stuff, is on his game, and is hyper-confident and aggressive. There is no mousing around issues. He does not let people get away with any garbage. It is The Chris Christie show wherever he goes and we wish conservatives coast to coast were just like this.

California's 47th Congressional District Candidate, Van Tran

by the Left Coast Rebel

I found some great background information and more details on Orange County, California's 47th Congressional district Van Tran. As explained here recently, Van Tran (pictured left) faces six term Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez. Loretta Sanchez has come under fire recently for telling Spanish-only Univision that "The Vietnamese and the Republicans are trying to take away this seat from us."

An introduction to Orange County Republican Van Tran from the Orange County Register:

Born in Saigon, South Vietnam, in 1964, Mr. Tran and his family were evacuated by U.S. forces shortly before the fall of South Vietnam in 1975. His childhood experience with oppressive regimes, he said, made him a conservative, and he is running for Congress to protect those values. "Having been a product of the Vietnam government, where the regime was dictatorial and oppressive, I understand the need for less government regulation," he said. "Encroachment of government on virtually every aspect of American life has inspired me to run for Congress."

Mr. Tran said the role of government is to empower the American people, to empower the family, to empower small businesses. The 47th is a very blue-collar district, so the biggest issues for voters are jobs and the economy. Mr. Tran said he would address those issues by reducing restrictions on small business and cutting taxes. "As a state assemblyman I have worked to make it easier for small businesses to hire, gotten rid of regulations and fee structures. ... That is what I would do at the federal level."

He opposes the original federal stimulus package – the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – because he said it is full of pork and imposed more debt and other burdens on the economy than opportunity for job creators. Policies like the stimulus shift the debt to future generations and by supporting them we are "mortgaging the future of our country." He said, "We can't throw money at a recession to fix it."

Mr. Tran said the 47th District is a perfect example of the failings of government stimulus spending because jobs promised for the district have not materialized. Mr. Tran similarly opposes the government bailouts and the Obamacare health care reform program.

Van Tran certainly could be a rising star in the Republican party. Visit his website here. Check out more coverage of the race at Left Coast Rebel.

Sgt. John D. Hawk

Citation:

He manned a light machinegun on 20 August 1944, near Chambois, France, a key point in the encirclement which created the Falaise Pocket. During an enemy counterattack, his position was menaced by a strong force of tanks and infantry. His fire forced the infantry to withdraw, but an artillery shell knocked out his gun and wounded him in the right thigh. Securing a bazooka, he and another man stalked the tanks and forced them to retire to a wooded section. In the lull which followed, Sgt. Hawk reorganized 2 machinegun squads and, in the face of intense enemy fire, directed the assembly of 1 workable weapon from 2 damaged guns. When another enemy assault developed, he was forced to pull back from the pressure of spearheading armor. Two of our tank destroyers were brought up. Their shots were ineffective because of the terrain until Sgt. Hawk, despite his wound, boldly climbed to an exposed position on a knoll where, unmoved by fusillades from the enemy, he became a human aiming stake for the destroyers. Realizing that his shouted fire directions could not be heard above the noise of battle, he ran back to the destroyers through a concentration of bullets and shrapnel to correct the range. He returned to his exposed position, repeating this performance until 2 of the tanks were knocked out and a third driven off. Still at great risk, he continued to direct the destroyers' fire into the Germans' wooded position until the enemy came out and surrendered. Sgt. Hawk's fearless initiative and heroic conduct, even while suffering from a painful wound, was in large measure responsible for crushing 2 desperate attempts of the enemy to escape from the Falaise Picket and for taking more than 500 prisoners.

Sgt. Hawk: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

As a young man, I worked a variety of jobs before I settled into my current career.
One of them was as a security guard. Although I had received no formal training from them, I was issued a side arm on a couple of assignments. Both, coincidentally, were at sites where there were union problems.

At one site, the picketers engaged me in friendly conversation, another was on the night shift at a hospital ER where there had apparently been some dispute with their union. No picketers were in sight.

I remember showing up at my post at the entrance to the ER, where I was handed a .38 revolver and holster. In all my tenure with the guard company, I never had occasion to draw a weapon, but as the evening wore on, other guards from other posts around the hospital would wander by, and what they all had in common was that none of them were armed! Apparently, I was the first line of defense for any crazed, violent protesters who might take it upon themselves to storm the ER!

I had that job for about three months before the enticements of long, boring evenings and occasionally freezing my tail off succumbed to the allure of academia and a higher degree (at higher degrees) and I went away to college.

A comment on another website brought this recollection to mind. Rather than jack that thread with my reminiscences, I inflicted it on you.

SEIU Endorses Marijuana Legalization Measure

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

CBS 13:

If Proposition 19 passes in November, California would become the first state to legalize and regulate recreational pot use. Adults could possess up to one ounce of the drug.

Supporters have targeted two areas of concern for voters: the economy and crime. Legalized pot would bring much-needed revenue to the state and reduce the influence of drug cartels, they said.

The measure was endorsed Tuesday by the largest labor union in the state. The Service Employees International Union, which has 700,000 members, said revenue generated by the initiative would help California preserve (union) jobs and avoid cuts to key services such as education and health care.

The union represents workers in health care, building services and state and local government.

Higher education? Sounds like the SEIU wants to stem job losses and seed California's prosperity, or at least get the people where they don't give a rat's patoot about what's going on in California.

Time to buy munchie futures...

Jerry Brown: Fictional Crimefighter

In 2006, while running for AG, one of Brown's opponents ran this ad. It may be noteworthy today, in light of ads that the former Governor Moonbeam is running these days portraying himself as a law and order candidate, and the news that California may be executing a death row inmate soon.

For those with short memories, or who weren't born when Jerry actively opposed the death penalty, to the point of appointing the infamous Rose Bird as Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, according to wiki:

She reviewed a total of 64 capital cases appealed to the court. In each instance she issued a decision overturning the death penalty that had been imposed at trial.

Sixty four cases. Sixty four times Bird voted to overturn the death penalty. Rose Bird was ideologically opposed to the death penalty as was Brown. Brown appointed Bird as Chief Justice in a state where the electorate voted to uphold the death penalty by a two to one margin.
We used to say that "Jerry Brown gave California the Bird!"

As AG, Brown is touting his position as "Chief Law Enforcement agent of the state", as in order to appeal to the center (or the uninformed). He may even play a role in this upcoming execution to bolster his law and order cred. Whether he cynically takes credit for it or subtly undermines it on some point of procedure remains to be seen.

In the meantime, look for Brown to continue to tout his imaginary zeal for law enforcement with a straight face.

Funny - Is this a US Senator, or an "after" photo from an anti-meth PSA?

Last night I met Mary who runs the BeJohnGalt site. She had left a nice comment at my PJM piece and I checked out her link. Anyway she has a great Randian-centerred, 'small-l', libertarian leaning blog that you should check out. Her father writes a must-read "Price of Freedom" column every week at the site too. She's also a resident of the People's Republic of California.

This morning Mary emailed me and mentioned something funny that she and her compatriots had cooked up. It's a new Lisa Murkowski site. The URL is http://www.lisamurkwski.com/.

The site is oh-not-so-flattering to Lisa Murksowski (without an 'O' in the last name, check the URL above), screenshot (click to embiggen):

Three Way With Murkowski Hurts Dem Candidate in AK

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

No, not a ménage à trois! (Though the thought did occur to me while writing the headline!) Now that you have the image of Murkowski as the object de' desire of a different kind of three way, let's look at the three way race in Alaska.
Yid With Lid points out that Murkowski's write in candidacy may hurt the Dem more than it does Joe Miller.

According to a Rasmussen poll released this morning shows that Senator Lisa Murkowski's write-in effort to hold on to the Alaska senate seat, actually helps fellow Republican Joe Miller. In the last poll completed in late August, Miller had a six point lead over Democrat Scott McAdams, but this latest poll taken on 9/19, two days after Murkowski announced her spoiler campaign, Miller has the support of 42% of Alaskan voters, 15% higher than Murkowski's 27% and 17% over Democrat McAdams' 25%.

Seems like Murkowski's schemes may not work out quite as well as she planned. Of course, if that doesn't work out, there may be some Alaskans lonely enough to enjoy a three way with her?

This has been your Schadenfreude moment of the day.

Angelina Jolie is "Salt" - A Movie Review

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I realize I’m a little late to this party. Salt, with Angelina Jolie, was released a couple of months ago and is finishing up its first run, but should be coming soon to a cable channel or Blue Ray near you. I liked Salt. It’s a pretty decent film. You may recall that I was less than impressed with Jolie in “Wanted” (Wanted: A plot would be nice!)

This picture is much better. You are not asked to suspend your disbelief any more than say, your typical James Bond film. Let’s see what I can tell you without too many plot spoilers.
Jolie is Evelyn Salt, a CIA field agent, captured by the North Koreans, rescued by the world famous arachnologist who loves her. (Girl meets arachnologist. Girl loses arachnologist. Arachnologist gets girl. –who hasn’t seen that before?)

Years later, a Russian agent defects to the West with the message that a Russian sleeper is going to assassinate the Russian president, in the US attending the state funeral of a clearly fictional, too good to be true, vice president.

Is Salt a sleeper or a double agent? Is she trying to assassinate the Russian president or save him? Are those lips real? Which side is she really on? While there were no major surprises for me, (I have a high rate of success figuring out plot lines and devices in the first act), the director’s and/or writer’s use of foreshadowing gives plenty of clues to where the plot path will wander, for those paying attention.

The director maintains a nice edge of suspense, even when you’re fairly certain what must happen next, but not necessarily how. The action scenes and stunts keep the pace fast. There is a good deal of violence, however. The brutality, even when dealt out to those who probably deserve it, could be too much for those of gentler sensibilities. But for an afternoon’s entertainment, Salt is an excellent popcorn movie.

The burning question that must be on everyone’s mind as they leave the theater, (it certainly was on mine) is…what will happen to the dog?

Allen West's SSN Revealed By Opponent

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Could it be because he's black?? Sorry! I was just channeling some of my liberal acquaintances there! In the Democrats-Have-No-Shame, Dirty Tricks department, Allen West's Democrat opponent has dug up a five year old tax lien against Mr. West, which has since been resolved, which they published along with his Social Security number!

Didn't the Dems do something similar when Michael Steele, then Lt. Governor, was running for office in Maryland?

BALTIMORE -- Federal prosecutors have opened an inquiry into allegations that two Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee employees illegally tapped into Lt. Gov. Michael Steele's credit history.

Maybe the canard about how unfriendly the Republican Party is to black candidates would evaporate if the the supposedly liberal, Liberal Democrats would stop violating the privacy of any conservative black who runs for office and stop assassinating the character of conservative blacks like Clarence Thomas?

I suppose that's too much to ask for!

Eleanor Holmes Norton Puts the Arm on Lobbyist

Did you hear this tape? Big Government had a piece on it last week. I heard it on the radio, but was locked in mortal combat with Bill Gates' Windows, so this is my first chance to comment on it.

Eleanor Holmes Norton first came to my attention back around the Clinton administration or maybe just a little before. She was a friend of Hillary and a big advocate for liberal causes, most of them surrounding The Children™.

She was always big on being appointed to posts where she could affect policy, mostly around the District of Columbia, but to my knowledge, has never won elective office.

But, it's not just putting the arm on a lobbyist, who apparently contributed to many of her colleagues, but not her (give you any hint, Eleanor?), note the clumsy and banal fashion in which she does it: She leaves him a cotton pickin' voicemail, for heaven's sake! (I almost forgot to work "Cotton pickin'" into this piece!) She wants to hit this guy up for money but she drones on and on to a tape recorder? Whatever happened to the personal touch? Why not, "Hi! This is Eleanor Holmes Norton and I have a couple of things I'd like to talk to you about. My number is 555-GiveMeMoney, please call so we can chat sometime!" And then at least have the decency to put the arm on him in person!

Instead, she leaves him a message with all the warmth of a melting glacier and the personal touch of a xeroxed Christmas letter.
The only way it could have been worse is if she had opened with: Dear "insert name here"!

Obama's Middle Class Honesty Cuts

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Obama would much rather control the narrative than control the economy. This is nowhere more apparent than in the administration's attempt to spin the extension of the Bush era tax cuts into "Obama's middle class tax cuts".

An extension would merely maintain the status quo. Your tax rate in January would be the same as it is today. No cut. None. Nada. Zip. Zero. But in Democrat-speak, not raising your taxes the way the Democrats wanted (it was they who voted to make Bush's tax cuts temporary), is granting you a tax cut.

This hearkens back to the old Congressional accounting system where a tax increase was proposed, Congress Critters would vote for a figure smaller than the one proposed, that was still a tax increase, yet they would brag (with the MSM as their willing accomplices) that they had "cut taxes" (from the proposed increase, not actually).

Thus, anyone advocating not raising anyone's taxes in our currently weak economy, is advocating...wait for it..."tax cuts for the rich". Or what we call in a little place I like to call reality: Leaving things the way they are.

Raising taxes in a recession is a bad idea. The fact that the Obama administration is contemplating raising anyone's taxes, borders on malfeasance if not incompetence.
The fact that they want to portray not raising your taxes as a "tax cut" either speaks of how ill acquainted these guys are with reality or honesty (or both). It also illustrates the liberals' view of who your money belongs to. It belongs to the government, according to them. For letting you keep a portion of that, you should be grateful.

The fact that they want to portray not raising taxes on small businesses and "the rich", as a tax cut", (i.e., people who might be in a position to actually create jobs), Obama, Pelosi and Co. demonstrate that they would much rather control the narrative than to provide meaningful or effective leadership to the country and an end to Obama's Economic Malaise.

Rasmussen: 67% Americans Better Informed Than 10 Years Ago

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Rie Rasmussen (no relation)

Rasmussen is reporting poll results where "two-out-of-three Americans (67%) feel they are more informed today than they were 10 years ago." At first blush, this seems to indicate a triumph of the New Media over the old. And to a certain extent, this is true.

Adults ages 30 to 49 believe that more strongly than those in any other age group
That shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. If you asked me if I was better informed at 29 than I was at 19, although the answer is "yes" it is largely irrelevant. What I knew at 19 was largely academic. What I knew at 29 had some real world experience to back it up.

Then, there's the phenomenon about lying to pollsters. "Are you better informed?" This question might be one that people might be inclined to fudge a bit on, even to an impersonal pollster. People are sometimes embarrassed to admit ignorance, even to strangers. Like asking adolescent boys how much sex they've had.

And finally, there's the reliability of the Internet.
Forty-four percent (44%) of all adults say the Internet is the best way to get news and information.

I agree. But, I have also seen too many people search the Internet merely for examples to bolster their ignorance and misconceptions. Truly informed individuals have learned how to sift through much of the dreck and misinformation on the web. After all, WhiteHouse.gov may have a better creative writing staff than say a FlatEarth.org, but in the end, you have to be able to compare more than one source to test the veracity of their claims. A closed mind will only look for or accept evidence that reinforces its own world view.

With those caveats, I am mildly encouraged. The demise of the stranglehold of the Old Media was unleashed by virtually unlimited access to information, via the Internet. Sans traditional filters, the consumer must be more discerning about what they receive, but then there is an abundance of material with which to fact check.

Persons today who are uninformed, choose to be.

Karl Rove on Lisa Murkowski: Sad and Sorry

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

On Fox News Sunday this AM, Karl Rove said that Murky Lisa Murkowski's write in campaign is "sad and sorry." As quoted in The Hill:

“Absolutely no she can't win,” Rove said. “Under the law, you have to carefully spell the name exactly correct, now everyone go to your pencil and paper and write the name 'Murkowski' and see if you got it right.

"No, she’s going to lose," he said.

"Now, the bigger, more important question is is she going to keep a Republican from winning," with her write-in bid, he said. "Who would have thought that one of the most conservative states in the country ran the risk of having two liberal Democrats who follow the Obama line representing it in the United States Senate? And that's what she could do as a spoilsport."

FNS also showed a clip from the Alaska primary loser Murkowski:
...Alaskans come to me saying "Lisa: Please give us a choice..."

Seems to me that Charlie Crist in Florida said something along these same lines. What do these dim bulbs think a primary is all about? The voters made a choice and it wasn't them. Are these people such narcissists that they cannot accept the rejection? Or have their bellies been up to the public trough for so long that they cannot bear the thought of having to go out and make an honest living?

If any of these self absorbed professional pols act as spoiler and keep the duly elected Republican nominees from winning in November, we should take note of these folk and make sure they couldn't win a race for dogcatcher in the future...even if they run unopposed!
